A while ago I posted about my sudden realisation I may be a system. Turns out I was right. So I'm going to be breaking down what I know and what needs to be further explored. I'm posting this for two reasons 1) L fictive means he deserves to have a say in all the fanfic I make about him. 2) maybe some other systems can read this and help us understand some things, or maybe we can help you understand some things.

Before we begin though, I bring you a glossary:

-Plural/system- having more than one person in your head.

-Alter/head mate - one of said people that shares the body with you

-inner world/ headspace - where all the alters can interact with each other in the brain. Not all systems have one.

-switching - when one alter allows another to take over.

-Host- leader of the system

-Co-host- the one that helps the host out

-Protector- the one who's sole job is to protect the system (can be more than one, primary protector, secondary protector etc. and can be a protector of a certain thing e.g. sexual protector)

-introject - alter based off a pre existing person

-brain made - opposite of an introject, made by the brain completely originally

-Fictive - introject based on a fictional character

-factive - introject based on a real person

-gatekeeper - the one who holds onto memories and keeps them away from the others and blocks them from certain parts of the headspace.

-trauma holder - the one who holds all the traumatic memories

-persecutor - often seen as the 'evil' one. Don't buy this harmful stereotype. They hold onto a lot of negative emotions and can be a bit aggressive but they aren't dangerous.

-fronting- when an alter is in control of the body

-co-conscious - when an alter is close enough to the one fronting they can see/hear/are aware of what's going on in the real world

-blurry - when the alters are all blurred together and can't tell who's who

-system bleed - when alters emotions and actions bleed into another one

-split - how an alter is formed. They split off a pre-existing one. Think asexual reproduction

-core- the 'original' personality the body was born with. Not all systems have one

-dormancy - when an alter isn't active for a long time

-little - an alter under age of around 9

-middle - alters aged 10-13, preteens

-systeen - teen alters.

-syskid - referring to all alters under the age of 13

-caretaker- the one who looks after the systeens and syskids

-systemsex - when an alter presents as intersex in the headspace. They can't use the intersex because of the medial and physical connotations it carry's. Unless the body is intersex too, they'd be called systemsex

Let's start.

1. How I opened communication

Once I had the "shit am I a system?" Realisation, I figured I should really try my best to establish connection. I knew that it wouldn't happen right away, and if they thought I wasn't ready for it they may just stay quiet and not contact me. But now seemed to be a good time to contact each other as we don't have any major events, stressors and are pretty stable health wise.
