Prompt: Write a spooky story to tell around the campfire. Remember, you want to bring suspense using onomatopoeia and alliteration. Don't forget to have a big finale to frighten everyone who is listening.
It was a dark and stormy night, and a group of friends had gathered around the campfire to tell spooky stories. As they huddled together, the wind howled through the trees, and the rain pattered against the leaves like a thousand tiny feet.
One of the friends, a tall, lanky man named Tom, began to tell a tale. He spoke in a deep voice, full of foreboding and dread.
"It was a night much like this," Tom began, "when I was camping in the woods with my friends. We had just settled down for the night when we heard something... strange."
Tom paused for effect, and the other campers leaned in closer, their eyes wide with anticipation.
"It was a sound like nothing I had ever heard before," Tom continued. "A low, guttural growl that seemed to come from all around us. And then we heard it again, louder this time, like the roar of a beast in the darkness."
As Tom spoke, the wind picked up, and the trees began to creak and groan. The campers huddled closer together, their hearts pounding with fear.
"We tried to ignore it," Tom said, "but the sound kept getting closer and closer, until it was right outside our tent. And then we heard it... scratching."
Tom made a scratching sound with his hand on the ground, and the other campers shuddered.
"It was like something was trying to claw its way into our tent," Tom said. "And then, suddenly, it stopped. We were too scared to move, too scared to even breathe. And then... we heard a voice."
Tom lowered his voice to a whisper, and the other campers leaned in closer.
"It was a voice like no other," Tom said. "A voice that filled us with terror and dread. It said... 'I'm coming for you.'"
As soon as Tom finished speaking, there was a loud crack of thunder and the campers jumped in fright. But then they heard something else... a low growling sound, coming from the darkness beyond the fire.
The campers turned to look, and there, standing just beyond the light of the fire, was a huge, snarling beast. Its eyes glinted in the darkness, and its teeth were bared in a menacing grin.
The campers screamed and scattered, running in all direction. But the creature was too fast, and it chased them through the woods, its growls echoing through the night.
As the campers ran, they could hear the beast getting closer and closer. Its claws scraped against the ground, and its breath was hot on their heels.
Just when they thought they were done for, they stumbled upon a small cabin in the woods. With no other options, they rushed inside and barricaded the door.
But the beast wasn't deterred. It scratched and clawed at the door, trying to break through. The campers could hear its growls and snarls just outside, and they knew that they were in grave danger.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash as the door gave way, and the beast burst into the cabin. The campers screamed and dodged its claws, but they were trapped with nowhere to run.
Just when it seemed like all was lost, a bright light flooded the room, and the beast let out a deafening roar. The campers shielded their eyes, and when they looked again, the creature was gone.
In its place stood a figure, shrouded in a brilliant aura of light. It spoke in a calm, reassuring voice, telling the campers that they were safe now.
As the figure faded away, the campers looked around in amazement. The cabin was now filled with a warm, comforting light, and the storm outside had cleared.
They knew they had experienced something truly unworldly, and they would never forget the terror and wonder of that night in the woods.
