Prompt: An Uber driver picks up the wrong person - and may not live to tell the tale.
It was a busy Friday night and Uber driver Jake was trying to make some extra money. He had been driving around for hours, picking up passengers here and there, and he was starting to feel tired. He decided to take one last ride before calling it a night.
He accepted a ride request that was only a few blocks away. When he arrived at the pickup location, he saw a woman standing on the corner, looking down at her phone. He assumed she was his passenger and pulled up to the curb.
"Hi, are you Jessica?" he asked, rolling down his window.
The woman looked up at him and nodded. "Yes, that's me," she replied, getting into the backseat of the car.
Jake started the ride and began driving towards the destination. It was a quiet ride, with neither of them speaking much. After a few minutes, Jake noticed that they were heading towards a seedy part of town.
"Is this the right way?" he asked, looking at his GPS.
The woman didn't respond. Jake started to feel uneasy. He glanced at her through the rearview mirror and noticed that she was wearing a hoodie and sunglasses, even though it was dark outside.
Suddenly, the woman pulled out a knife and pointed it at Jake's neck.
"Drive," she said, her voice cold and menacing.
Jake's heart raced as he realised he had picked up the wrong person. He had seen the real Jessica standing further down the street, waving at him to stop.
"Please, let me go," he pleaded, his hands shaking on the steering wheel.
The woman only laughed. "You shouldn't have picked me up," she said. "You're going to regret it."
Jake tried to keep his cool as he drove deeper into the dangerous part of town. He knew he had to stay alive long enough to get out of this situation.
As they approached a deserted alley, the woman suddenly grabbed the steering wheel and turned the car sharply to the right. They crashed into a dumpster, and the impact sent Jake flying out of the car.
He landed hard on the pavement, his vision blurry. He heard the screeching of tires and the woman's laughter as she drove away.
Jake lay there, bleeding and in pain, realising that he had narrowly escaped with his life. He knew that he would never forget the terror of that night, or the mistake he had made in picking up the wrong passenger.
