Prompt: Personification means giving human traits such as feelings and thoughts, to objects. Personify a Jack-O-Lantern. Write a story from the Jack-O-Lantern's point of view.
I was once just a simple pumpkin sitting in a field, growing alongside my siblings. But one day, a group of humans came by and picked me out from the rest. They carried me away from my home and into their warm, cozy house.
Inside the house, the humans began to carve into my flesh, creating a face out of my skin. At first, I was scared and didn't know what was happening. But as they placed a candle inside of me, I suddenly felt alive. I was no longer just a pumpkin, I was a Jack-O-Lantern.
The humans placed me outside on their porch, where I could see the world around me. Children dressed in costumes came by, some of them even stopped to admire me. It was a strange feeling, being admired for my appearance. I had never felt so important before.
As the night went on, more and more children came by to see me. I could hear their laughter and excitement as they pointed at me and talked about my glowing face. It was a magical feeling, being a part of something so special.
But as the night grew late, the children went home and the streets became quiet. I was left alone on the porch, with only the flickering flame inside of me for company. It was a lonely feeling, being a Jack-O-Lantern. But I knew that my purpose was to bring joy and excitement to those who passed by me.
As the days passed, I began to wither and rot. My once vibrant orange skin turned brown and wrinkled, and my candle flickered weaker and weaker. But even as I faded away, I knew that I had fulfilled my purpose. I had brought happiness to those around me, and that was all that mattered.
As I closed my eyes for the final time, I was content knowing that I had lived a full and meaningful life as a Jack-O-Lantern.
