Prompt: You find a diary that tells the future.
One day, while walking through a park, I stumbled upon an old diary lying on the ground. At first, I thought it was just some old book that someone had discarded, but as I picked it up and began to flip through its pages, I realised that it was something much more extraordinary.
The diary contained entries that appeared to be written by someone who had the ability to see into the future. The first entry was dated five years ago and described a major earthquake that would hit the city in which I lived. I was shocked as I read the details of the disaster, which had indeed occurred exactly as the diary had predicted.
As I continued reading, I found that the diary contained predictions for events that were set to happen in the coming weeks, months, and years. Some of the predictions were minor, like which sports team would win a particular game or when it would rain. But others were much more significant, like the outbreak of a global pandemic or the election of a new world leader.
I couldn't believe what I was reading. Was this diary really able to predict the future? And if so, who had written it and why had they left it lying in the park for anyone to find?
As I read on, I realised that there was one prediction that stood out above all the others. According to the diary, in just a few months' time, a massive asteroid would collide with Earth, causing catastrophic destruction and potentially wiping out all life on the planet.
I was terrified by this prediction and didn't know what to do. Should I try to warn people? Should I keep the diary a secret and hope that it was all just some elaborate hoax? I decided to take the diary to a group of scientists who specialised in studying asteroids and see if they could confirm the prediction.
To my surprise, the scientists were amazed by what they saw. They confirmed that an asteroid was indeed on a collision course with Earth and that it would hit in just a few months' time.
Thanks to the diary, we were able to prepare for the disaster and evacuate as many people as possible. The asteroid did hit, but we were able to minimise the damage and save countless lives.
As for the diary, I never found out who had written it or how they had gained the ability to see into the future. But one thing was certain: it had changed my life forever and had given me a new appreciation for the power of foresight.
