"It's nothing great but I did manage to ruin your day so I thought." Louis awkwardly blabbered behind me as I turned to him and back to everyone standing near a table with food and a cake, smiling at me. "Mom was delighted by the idea of it, so she did all this." He rubbed his neck, either uncomfortable or nervous. He finally sighed at my lack of response. "Anyway, happy birthday. I am really sorry for-" Before he could finish I hugged him, clearly taking him by surprise. I pulled back with a smile then turned to his family, thanking them profusely and apologising for the inconvenience, for which I got a light scold from his mum and Nanna. Louis came and stood beside me as I cut the cake in front of me. Plates of light food were passed around and everyone sat down to enjoy, I couldn't brush the smile of my face. Louis sat beside me with an amused expression.
"You look happy." He said casually, like what he just did was the most natural thing to do for someone.
"I've never had a surprise party before. This is all so nice of you." I said looking at just Louis but meaning it for his whole family.
"Our Boo Bear was always the thoughtful kind." His mom said lovingly. "And it was the least we could do after his clumsiness caused you a birthday." She said turning to me. I smiled and picked up my drink. "The whole surprise and bringing you in with your eyes covered was all his idea though." She said with an amused smile.
"Rachael would much rather have a blind fold." He said causing me to nearly choke on my lemonade.
"Oh are you okay love? Seem a little pale there?" Louis said turning to look at me while everyone looked equally worried and confused.
"I'm fine, just you know, so extremely overwhelmed by all of this." I said giving Louis a curt smile. I then turned to his mom with a more genuine one. "Thank you so much for this again, it really means a lot that you would go to such lengths for me. I am again sorry for the bother." I said again.
"She's a law student, can you tell?" Louis said before sipping of his lemonade, earning a quick smack on the thigh from me. Everyone continued to talk and interact with me like they've known me forever, it was nice.
