"I personally think the east has more to offer, being a well-balanced synthesis of eastern historic traditions and imminent westernisation from globalisation." I said to his mum as we talked about my desire to travel.
"But the east has a definite communication barrier, I speak from experience." Louis said knowledgably, trying to join the conversation.
"And you think I don't speak from experience?" I said with a crafty smile. "I may not have seen as much of the world as you, but I've been around, love." I said mocking him. He smiled with pride.
"My bad. I don't really have strong opinions about the places I go to." He said relaxing back into his chair. "And you're calculative. I know." I narrowed my eyes at him with a smile. His attentive conduct was intriguing at the least. We talked for a while longer before Louis informed that we really must leave if he was to catch his flight at all. I helped him get his bags, after he tried to fight me on how he shouldn't let a guest and lady carry his baggage. I just scoffed and picked them all up at once, giving him my bag for good measure. Once we were all packed we waved off his family and were on our way.
"I can carry my own things you know." Louis said.
"Yeah but you didn't have to, you are injured, knight, chivalry can take the back seat for now." I said with a chuckle.
"We could have done it together." He said quietly.
"Yeah well, I don't like asking for help when I am perfectly capable of doing something on my own." My statement was followed by a brief silence, which caused me to briefly glance his way, I was greeted by his narrowed eyes and look of deep thought that I had gotten used to by now. After what seemed like ages he finally took a deep breath and spoke up.
"You're so adamantly independent, no wonder my mum likes you." He said sitting back in the passenger seat as I drove us out of town and towards London.
"She likes me really? You think?" I said nervously, not looking away from the road.
"Was there any part of that entire incident that she hinted otherwise?" Louis asked turning to me. "Can I borrow your phone? I need to make a call and my I'm saving my battery." He said placing his palm out.
"Umm sure here." I said handing my phone to him. "And I'm not. That's not." I stammered hopelessly then sighed. "That's not what I mean, she was just being nice." I said quietly.
"Oh trust me my mum isn't the kind to pretend, she speaks her mind to a fault." He said with a chuckle.
"So we know where you get it from." I said turning to him as we pulled in to a gas station. He gave me a secretive smile then scoffed. He opened the door then walked out, briefly pausing to bend down to the door and speak.
"I am yet to speak my mind about you, love." He said and then walked away to buy gas.
