POV: Darleen
I don't think I've ever been surer something was going to go wrong in my entire life. I mean, it's a perfect recipe for disaster. Skylar, her exes, me and my exes, our families... all in one room. Anyone looking at it would just know; this isn't going to end well. Something was bound to happen, sooner or later.
As we sat at the table eating and chatting, I kept glancing around, waiting for the first ball to drop. On my third glance over at the table, I locked eyes with Lexi who was eyeing me. She quickly looks away, caught.
"Then, they had to hoist me up in those rig things so it looks like my character is flying. It was so fun," Jade fills the awkward silence with her story about filming her new show.
"I could never, I'd die of fear if that were me," Skylar says.
Jade laughs.
Skylar sits on one side of me and on the other...
I finally glance to my left and watch Aphrodite pick at her salad. She seems to sense my gaze and looks at me, I quickly look away.
What is she doing here? How did she know I was here; how did she know about the party? How did either of my exes know? Unless...
I glance over at Matilda; she is chatting it up with Mackenzie's mom, Jade's Aunt.
She wouldn't.
Would she?
She would.
Does she really hate Skylar that much?
I nervously glance at Skylar just in time for her to say,
"We might go out of town for New Year's, Darleen and I have been talking about it. We haven't decided yet."
"Aww," Jade pouts.
"I thought you said you didn't want to go anywhere," I finally butt into the conversation.
"I said, I was thinking about it. Why? Do you retract your offer?" She raises an eyebrow.
"No, but now that it's a definite maybe, I think I have a few places in mind." I tease.
"Like what?" Jade asks.
"Like none ya," I go back to eating.
"Oh come on snorleen, what is your idea of a grand adventure?" Vida teases.
"Can you stop calling me that?" I snap at her.
"If the shoe fits," She mutters.
"Vida," Skylar chastises her and gives her a stern look.
"Fine," she relents.
"A vacation sounds lovely," Skylar's mom joins the conversation.
"If you go on a yacht can I come!?" Oli asks.
I chuckle as Skylar groans in embarrassment.
"You two should just get married already so I can be rich," Oli teases.
"Oli!" Skylar kicks her under the table.
"Ow!"
I see Skylar glance over at Matilda who is glaring daggers at her.
"She was just kidding," Skylar laughs nervously at my family who eyes her.
"I don't know," I wrap my arm around Skylar, "Maybe we should get married on Yacht. Elope to a private island, just the two of us." I tease.
"Stop," Skylar complains in embarrassment.
"I call maid of honor!" Oli says.
Everyone laughs.
