POV: Skylar
"Apparently she's been spying on me since high school, back when I was dating Darleen," I explain to Jade.
As soon as the two of us had the kitchen to ourselves I had to tell her everything that happened yesterday. I had nightmares last night just thinking about it. I feel so violated, so disgusted.
"You're kidding me," Jade says.
"No! She had pictures. It was mortifying." I hiss.
Jade sends me a look and clears her throat before casually getting back to cleaning up the kitchen. I quickly plaster a smile on my face before turning to face Darleen.
"Hey!"
She raises an eyebrow at me, suspicious of me and Jade alone together.
"How's the party?" I grab her hands in mine to reassure her.
"It would be better if you were in it." She says with an annoyed bite.
"Almost done, just have to finish the bird, steaks are resting now. Peas are done. Salads prepped. Everything is good. Just waiting on that bird." I quickly blabber out.
Ugh! I hate when I'm nervous, all that comes out is word vomit. Now she's probably really suspicious. Not that there is anything to be suspicious about, I just know she wouldn't appreciate me telling Jade everything that happened yesterday. But I have to! I have to tell someone; I feel like I'm going crazy! I mean I knew Darleen's family could be a bit much but that was over the line even for them!
"Jade can do it." Darleen interrupts my spiraling thoughts.
"It's our party, one of us should keep watch. Why don't you grab me some tea, I'm sweating over here." I quickly usher her away from me.
"Fine," she pouts but walks off to the dining room.
I sigh in relief once she's gone.
"So what happened after that?" Jade moves back over to me.
"Then Darleen blew up on her and kicked her out. Apparently, I'm not the only one she spied on. She has files on Lexi and Aphrodite too." I say.
"Holy hell her mom is a total psychopath," Jade looks at me in concern.
"I know! I just felt so disgusted and violated, I almost walked out on Darleen right then and there. I was going to go back to your house to cool off but Darleen stopped me. I was running on high emotions and I guess I overreacted a bit." I glance over at Darleen who eyes us in annoyance before making her way back over to us.
"You should have come over, you know I'm there for you no matter what," Jade grabs my hand under the counter.
I quickly snatch my hand back and clear my throat just as Darleen walks into the room.
"Here," she shoves the cup of tea into my hands.
"Thanks," I take it and quickly start downing it to avoid talking.
The three of us stand in awkward silence for a bit.
"Hey I think your Mom and Mom are fighting," Jade indicated to Darleen's birth mother and adopted mother.
Darleen sighs but quickly goes to break them up.
I sigh and set the cup down, watching her deal with her parents.
"Are you really okay with giving that woman another chance?" Jade asks me.
"No..." I say softly, honestly. "But I have to for Darleen. I guess... the two of us are going to have to figure it out."
