POV: Skylar
"I don't know it was just weird, like they are both two of my best friends but seeing them together just... didn't sit right with me," I say to Vida as we walk to our cars.
We just finished classes.
I still haven't heard back from any jobs.
"Sounds tough, if you want I can come over and keep you company. Help you get the edge off." She quickly offers.
"Vida," I sigh in annoyance.
She's not even listening to me. She just uses anything I say as an excuse to come over and "hang out" which I know just means she'll try and make a move on me.
"What? I got some weed to share," She smiles.
"Are you listening to me at all!? I'm super stressed out! The last thing I need is you trying to swoop in and put the moves on me."
"The what!?" she laughs loud and hard.
"Shut up," I playfully push her. "you know what I meant." I giggle.
"Oh come on Skylar, celebrate. You are finally free from that ball and chain named Snorleen. You two weren't a good match anyway and you know it. Let's just do us again. Have fun like we used to. Come on, I miss you," She grabs my arm.
"Vida, this is serious! I fucked it up with Darleen because of Jade. I thought I was done with Jade, I thought I was over her and then she just-"
"Shows up to wreck your life?"
"Exactly!"
"No, Skylar, look," She points.
I follow her line of sight and see Jade waiting by my car.
My heart stops.
I stop.
Why?
Why does she keep doing this to me?
"I can tell her off for you if you want," Vida offers.
I clench my hands into a fist before marching over to Jade. I have to end this. But I don't know how. What else can I do to make it crystal clear to her that I don't have feelings for her anymore?
But how can you make it clear to her when it's not even clear to yourself? A voice inside my head reminds me.
"I told you I needed space," I say to Jade once I walk up.
"Well, I need to talk to you," She jumps up and sits on the hood of my car.
She has that same stupid, cute, cocky smirk on her lips. Like she's won. Like she's proven her point to me. Just seeing it makes me want to cry. I look down in shame.
"Skylar?" Vida grabs my hand.
"I'll talk to you later Vida," I pull my hand away.
"Bye-bye now, I need to talk to Skylar alone," Jade waves at her in a haughty manner.
I hate overconfident Jade, she's mean, rude, and just an overall bitch.
Vida clenches her jaw in anger but slowly walks away like a puppy with her tail tucked.
"Well, come on then," I unlock the car.
She jumps off and quickly slides into the passenger seat.
The entire car ride to the house is deadly silent. When we get there she lets herself in and I take Ace out for a quick walk to delay what I know she wants to talk about. I know she wants to point out how I ended the relationship yet it was me who acted like a jealous idiot in front of everyone proving once again, that Jade still owns me.
