POV: Darleen
I get to Jade's house in record time. Just thinking about Jade and Skylar alone together makes me sick to my stomach. Because no matter what Skylar says, I know she will always have feelings for Jade. The two of them can't help themselves. They love each other.
And that love will always make me insecure.
It's strong, with a sturdy foundation. All it would take is a little spark to ignite it into a burning flame again. Though Jade and I are friends, she will always be my rival in love. If only for the fact that she's already defeated me once before. And I still don't even understand how Skylar could pick her over me. I don't think I ever will.
Which bothers me.
There will always be that question in the back of my mind, what does Jade Tate have that I don't have?
I don't even know what I'll do when the time comes to face her again.
Because let's face it, no way Jade Tate is going down without a fight. Eventually, I will have to face her again and defeat her this time if I will ever stand a chance at winning Skylar's heart.
I may not be able to keep the two of them away from each other forever, but I can sure as hell try.
I try the door nob and thank god it's open. I walk in and look around, I hear sobbing, soft, sad sobbing. So I follow the sound to the living room where I see the two of them crying it out in a tight, and way too close for comfort, embrace.
Instantly I am filled with jealousy.
It's like I'm in high school all over again.
Just seeing them two together makes me so insecure, so angry, it just gets right under my skin. Like an itch I can't scratch. My chest feels tight and already I have to fight back tears. I want to yell at them, rip them away from each other. Stop whatever stupid divine forces deem Skylar and Jade the perfect couple. Just one look at them and I know, she loves her, they love each other so damn much.
Skylar doesn't hold me like that.
Doesn't act that way around me.
If people saw us together, they'd never know we were in love.
And I don't like that.
I clear my throat, causing them to flinch apart.
They wipe their eyes and try to get decent.
I can't help but grab Jade by the arm and yank her away from Skylar. She bucks up to me instantly, and I to her. We lock eyes in an unrelenting battle. But then something unexpected happens... she backs down. I watch her deflate and her glare turns soft and even endearing. I'm caught off guard.
"I'll give you two a moment," she says.
Before I can say anything she grabs me by my face and looks me in the eyes.
"Take care of her for me," she says seriously.
Then she walks off to another part of the house.
I stare after her in confusion.
"Darleen," Skylar says, drawing my attention.
"I don't want you holding her like that. You know how I feel—" she cuts me off by kissing me.
Instantly my fears are quelled. I feel my guard lower and I relax against her, closing my eyes to enjoy the kiss.
"Down Beasty," she says against my lips. "That fight is over."
