POV: Skylar

"This is cute, you should wear this," I help Mackenzie pick out an outfit for her interview.

It didn't take long for someone to call her back, it's just a small local bookstore but hey it's a start.

"Okay," Mackenzie grabs the blouse from my hand.

I turn to face the closet as she slips out of her shirt to change.

"So," I say awkwardly.

"What's up?"

"Darleen and I were talking, and we think—"

"Where is Darleen anyway?" She cuts me off.

"She's out with her mom, they are trying to reconnect. I swear that woman is out to get me, you know she still hasn't invited me on any of their mother-daughter bonding outings." I roll my eyes as I turn to face Mackenzie just as she pulls the blouse on.

"You should watch out for her," Mackenzie shakes her head.

"Trust me I know. I don't trust that woman. Anyway, Darleen and I were talking and—"

"Can you hand me those slacks... the ones with the zipper?" Mackenzie asks.

"Oh yeah, sure." I turn back to the closet and dig around for them.

"What do I say in the interview? What if I freeze up?" Mackenzie says.

"Don't worry, you got this." I pull the slacks out.

"Will you come with me, please?" She grabs my hand in hers as I hand her the pants.

"Mackenzie I won't be able to go into the interview with you," I eye her in worry.

"I know but I just need moral support. Please," She pleads.

"Darleen and I were gonna—"

"Please." She cuts me off.

I sigh, "Okay." I give in.

"Thank you." She hugs me.

I sigh and pat her back.

"Okay, so what should I say in the interview?" she pulls back to look into my eyes.

"Just lie about everything, try to impress them."

"Skylar!" She laughs.

"What! It works, promise." I giggle.

"You're a bad influence," She playfully pushes me.

"Okay, get dressed, I'm going to go tell Darleen we will have to reschedule our lunch."

"Well just push it back, the three of us can go after my interview," Kenzie suggests.

"Hmm, okay, I'll tell her. Get dressed." I walk out of the room, Ace following me.

I know Darleen is going to be irked. First, I blew off our date day and now I am pushing back our makeup lunch and bringing Mackenzie. After I promised I'd talk to her. Maybe I should just go hide under the covers until she forgets about all that. Sigh.

I pull out my phone to text Darleen but before I can type a single word the screen lights up from a call from her. I groan, I know she's not going to be happy but I answer anyway.

"Hey," I force a chipper voice.

"Hey, I just left my mom. Where do you want me to meet you for lunch? Did you drop Kenzie off at her interview yet?"

"Uh... about that." I start.

I hear her sigh.

"Mackenzie needs me to come to the interview with her, she's totally psyched out. The three of us can get lunch afterward. You should just meet us at the bookstore."
