Forty Two

SAMANTHA's POV

I was on the stairs and stopped momentarily just to stare at the woman who was patiently waiting for me. I scanned her from head to toe and I couldn't stop admiring her. She's more beautiful and sexy than me and a little smaller. Maybe that's why Sandro likes her. Pero hindi ko pa naman na-confirm kung sila ba talaga. I slightly shook my head to remove these negative thoughts. I was a little surprised when she turned her head and looked at me. Maybe she felt my presence. She stood up from the sofa and a smile was written on her face.

Lex: Hi Sam. Kamusta ka na?

I gulped and met her gaze. I don't know what to say.

Lex: Are you alright?

Samantha: I am, yes. Please, have a seat.

I continued walking down the stairs and sat on the sofa beside her. I feel awkward and nervous at the same time.

Lex: How are you doing? I'm sorry, hindi na kita nadalaw sa ospital.

Samantha: Oh I'm fine, that's fine, don't be sorry. And thank you for visiting me here.

Then there's a moment of silence. It's hard to start a conversation with someone you doesn't know. Para kaming naghihintayan na dalawa kung sino ba ang unang magsasalita.

Lex: Maybe I should go. Dumaan lang talaga ako to check on you.

We both stood up but I have to stop her from leaving. I really wanted to clarify something. So I think it is better to ask her.

Samantha: Ahmm.... Lex?

Lex: Do you remember who I am?

Samantha: Not really..... no.

Lex: Right. As what Sandro told me. What is it? Are you gonna ask something?

I paused and bravely asked.

Samantha: Are you....... are you Sandro's...... g-girlfriend?

She frowned. Maybe she was thinking, why would I ask that question out of the blue.

Samantha: You are Sandro's girlfriend, r-right?

Lex: I am. How do you know that? Naaalala mo na ba?

There, she said it. So it's confirmed. Sya nga ang girlfriend at hindi ako. Why did Sandro lied to me? Is it out of pity?

Samantha: It's just...... it's just a wild guess.

I stepped back as I felt a sharp pain in my head. So here I am, trying to calm and hold myself in front of her as I remember what happened in Ilocos and how I got here. Then there's this scene on how Sandro and Lex got back together. And how he broke my heart when he proposed to Lex on my birthday. So that's the reason why I got hospitalized. Yes, that's it! He was just trying to cover things up and he was damn right. I am sick, still sick.

Lex: You look pale, Sam. Are you sure you're alright?

Samantha: I-i am, y-yes.

Lex: Maupo ka muna. Take a deep breath. Gusto mo ng tubig?

Samantha: You might want to stay a little longer and wait for Sandro? Andito ka na rin naman. I bet he's on his way here.

Good job self! That's another torture for you. Making things more complicated and hurtful.
