"Evan Buckley! Why didn't you wake me up?"
A young woman stumbled out if her bedroom, trying to pull her pants up, not bothered in the slightest that her roommate was able to see her only in her underwear.
Why did I have to stay up so late? I should have gone to bed sooner.
"I'm making breakfast, you can take your scrambled eggs as an official apology." The man laughed at her as she fell to the ground, but quickly moved to help her up.
With his assistance, she pulled up her pants properly, trying to catch her breath. "Do you know where my favourite blouse is? I was looking for it."
"I did the laundry yesterday. It's hanging on the drying rack."
Diana nodded and went to get the piece of clothing. After she was fully dressed, the pair of friends ate breakfast and both went to work.
_While Buck was already working at the same fire house for more than a year, today was the day Diana was officially transferred to another police precinct: Mid-Wilshire.
When she arrived, most officers had already left since roll call was over and most were now on patrol.
She was actually supposed to meet the captain, but was informed at the front desk that she wasn't available and would meet her Sergeant instead.
"Detective Ryder, nice to meet you."
"Sergeant Caradine, good to be here," she greeted back and shook his hand, not a hint of a smile on her face. This was work, not fun.
"Please, sit down."
She did as she was told and sat down opposite of her new Sergeant. "Sir, concerning my transfer-"
Lifting his hand, he interrupted her. "That is what I wanted to talk to you about. Officially you transfered because we needed more personal, unofficially because of what happened between you and your former captain. I wasn't told much about that, so would you mind explaining the situation to me?"
Am I even supposed to tell him, Diana asked herself, her thoughts running wild. She'd have to talk to Internal Affairs later.
For a few seconds, she just stared at him, not really sure what to do. She didn't want to have secrets in her new job, but what happened was hard on her. Her mind was still trying to process it and the investigation was still open.
"If you don't mind Sergeant... it was a rather..." she sighed, not knowing how to finish her sentence. "Honestly, I don't know. I just want to do my job. I'm happy that I transfered."
Again, she didn't smile. The only emotion she showed since she entered the room was the uncertainty she showed when he mentioned her former captain. He really had no idea what happened. Till he met her, he thought they were just another two cops with affairs, sneaking around the workplace and making out in closets. Now, he wasn't so sure anymore.
"Well, we are certainly happy to have you here. Your records are impressing, we always need competent detectives like you. Now, if you need anything, please come to me." He stood up and held out his hand for another handshake.
Diana quickly shook his hand. "Thank you, Sir."
"An officer will show you to your desk. You will meet your partner tomorrow. You're excused."
_Her first case was an interesting one. Immediately after she read the file, she headed out to question some people who were connected to the victim.
The victim, 36 year old James Barns, heavily beaten up and left alone to die of his injuries behind the club he was working at as a bartender.
