The next day when she walked into work, she passed by a lot of reporters and officers in the lobby and read the big poster hanging down from the ceiling. 'Make a wish: cop for a day'
She watched a little girl pulling a handcuffed man in his forties with her while people around her clapped their hands and cheered on her.
She sure looks happy.
"You know him?"
Beside her, she found her partner, looking down at the scene. She didn't respond so he just continued. "Officer John Nolan, everyone here knows him. Oldest rookie I've ever heard of."
"As long as he manages to get the job done, why not?" She sighed. "Let's get to work."
_Later that day, the duo came just back in from questioning some people when two Detectives went past them, a woman in handcuffs between them. Normally nothing strange, but Diana noticed the look Officer Bradford gave her from the other side of the room.
"His wife."
"Huh?" Truth be told, she didn't really listen to what Charlie was talking about at the moment, but when he stopped, she was pulled out of her day dreaming.
"His wife. She was an officer in Narcotics but got addicted herself. Everyone here knows about her."
Diana wanted to ask questions but quickly got a hold of herself. This wasn't her business. As much as Bradford annoyed her the day before, she had no right to go through his personal stuff.
"And those Detectives?"
"Wolfe and Vestri. Good guys, I worked with them before. I can introduce them to you later."
"Okay."
They were just about to turn around and leave to continue their investigation, when Sergeant Grey suddenly stepped out of his office and signaled them to come to him.
Huh?
When they arrived, the other Detectives and Officer Bradford had already left. He quietly let the two partners enter his office and closed the door behind them. "Detectives, please sit down."
They did as told and the Sergeant continued. "I want to ask you for a favor. The Detective Exam is happening soon. Currently, the position of a Detective is open, the top candidates are the Officers Bishop and Lopez."
"And you want to know what we think," Park guessed, a knowing smile on his face.
Oh, please no.
Grey nodded. "Both of them are very talented. If you could just keep an eye on them for today and tell me what you think at the end of their shift, I would be grateful."
"Isn't one of them today in the company of Rupert Payne? Like the Rupert Payne?"
With a raised brow, Diana looked at her partner. "Is that a name I should know?"
"Payne is riding with Bishop. Since you don't know who that is, Ryder, you should take Bishop while Detective Park keeps an eye on Lopez."
The duo nodded and left the office, when Diana turned to Charlie. "So tell me, who is this Rupert Payne Guy?"
"Some Hollywood producer who wants to get an insight in real police work."
A celebrity on board is like having a baby on board! Boring calls and no action. Hope he doesn't poop his pants.
"Oh no," she exclaimed. "You sent me to do the boring job? Charlie, you are my partner, how could you do that to me?" She whined.
Charlie laughed at her and gave her a side hug. "Better you than me. See you later."
