While the other Detectives were making preparations for their plan and Bishop got changed, Diana decided to get a cup of coffee from the break room.
Just as she filled a cup with the steaming hot liquid, she heard a familiar voice calling her from behind. With her cup in her hands, she turned, finding Lucy sitting at a table along with another rookie and a p3. She walked up to them. "Chen, what is it?"
Before she got to the point however, the rookie decided to introduce her to the others sitting at the table. "Detective Ryder, that's Jackson West, a rookie like me and his TO, Officer Angela Lopez."
"Hi, nice to meet you, Detective."
"Hello."
Mh, so this is Lopez. Charlie told me a little about her.
And Jackson West? Commander Percy West's son? That reminds me that I wanted to talk to him.
"Hi," Diana nodded before turning back to the female rookie. "What is it, Chen?"
"You were there, right? This morning when Nolan shot that robber?"
Unsure what this was about, Diana hesitantly nodded. "Well, not when he actually shot him, but I was called to the scene afterwards. Asked some questions and shared my opinion with Internal Affairs afterwards."
"So you talked to Nolan?"
Diana simply nodded in response waiting for the Officer to get to the point.
"And... do you think he is alright? I haven't talked to him yet, he is still with Sergeant Grey, but... he will be okay, yes? He was only defending himself after all and-"
"I'm not allowed to talk to you about an ongoing investigation, Officer Chen," the Detective interrupted with a monotone voice, before continuing in a softer tone. "However, every cop has to go through this. You can ask anyone you meet, most of them reacted the same way: shock, trauma, therapy, back to work like nothing happened. But we all remember it. Be it the first time, the second time... good cops don't forget about the lives they took, no matter how 'bad' that person was."
The Officers all shared a look, letting the Detective's words sink in for a moment. After a few seconds, Officer Lopez turned around in her seat, facing the Detective for the first time. Her friend Tim had told her about the encounters they had, just like Thalia did after she spent some time with Ryder. Both opinions on her were controversial, while Bradford called her rude and not a good team player, Bishop said that Detective Ryder was confident, very responsible and good in her job.
Now, Angela wasn't a person who only listened to rumors, instead, she wanted to form an opinion of Diana Ryder herself. "And what do you think, Detective? Is Nolan a good cop?"
The Texan looked down at the Latina, noticing her analyzing eyes on her. She was no fool, she knew that Lopez was along with Bishop and Bradford a Training Officer, the only one she hadn't met yet. And while Diana didn't know what Bishop thought of her, she definitely knew that Bradford wasn't one to keep quiet when he could gossip about her 'incompetence' and sarcasm in the job.
She probably doesn't like me after everything she heard from her friends.
Well, you can suck it, Bradford. I'm gonna make that pretty Lady like me.
"Well, he is still a rookie but... I think he has the potential to become a very good cop." Diana began to smile. "Chen, you shouldn't worry too much about him. It's tough on him but I'm sure he will learn from it and be back to work in no time."
The rookie nodded, still worried about her friend but thankful for the Detective's words.
"Was that all?"
