_"How was your date?"
Diana sat down with a thud, sighing heavily. "I'm gonna kill a thousand people and a monkey."
Charlie tilted his head. "Why a monkey?"
"Why does everyone only ever care about the monkey but never about the humans?"
"Well shit, I walked right into your trap."
She smirked. "You ran, stumbled over your own feet and fell right into my trap."
He rolled his eyes but also smiled. "So how was your date? Do tell."
"'t was okay," she shrugged. "Probably not gonna see him again, though."
"What? Why? He was hot!"
Diana raised an eyebrow.
"What? Am I not allowed to look," he asked, his hands raised defensively.
Again, she shrugged. "I don't know. My relationships have always been so toxic that I was in trouble just for talking to someone else. I'm bisexual! The people I dated were afraid of both men and woman around me. It was suffocating. I guess that made me afraid of commitment. I don't see anything good coming out of this."
"Have you never been in a truly healthy relationship? Trust and conversation are the foundation of one."
"I'm only dating assholes, it seems. I don't have a good pick."
"Don't say that."
"What else could it be? Am I choosing the right people and turning them worse myself?"
"That's not what I'm saying," he shook his head. "You're young, you have your life ahead of you. Your failed relationships help you find out what you really want."
"What I want is not to be alone anymore. I just- hm, I dunno, it's frustrating," she admitted. "I'm jealous of what you have. You're trully lucky. Your relationship is great, it's stable, not toxic in any kind of way. Even your son is great."
Charlie smiled. "You'll get there. You just need some time. I mean look at me - I was partying with different girls each night before I met my one and only. I never even imagined to settle down, let alone raise a child."
She cocked an eyebrow. "You? A manwhore?"
"I prefer playboy." Charlie chuckled.
"Playboy? What are you? Sixteen?"
He laughed.
"Anyways," she began. "I'm gonna go down to the food truck and get myself a proper cup of coffee. You want anything?"
"A coffee would be nice."
"Alright, I'll be back in ten."
On her way down stairs, she passed by Nolan and Nick Armstrong — the new detective. She greeted them friendly, had a little bit of small talk with them and then everyone went their way again.
Five minutes later and with two coffees in her hands, Diana was on her way back inside the building, when her eyes caught Bradford and Jackson on the other side of the street. While the TO seemed to be in rage, the Officer in training looked ashamed, reprimanded even.
Interested in what was going on, the detective continued to watch till eventually Bradford left Jackson standing there like a kicked puppy.
Without hesitation, Diana crossed the street and went over to him, offering him one of the coffees. "Hey Jackson. I don't want to pry but what was that about? He seemed rather agitated. I know 'cause I agitate him all the time."
