*SMUT AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER*
George's Perspective
Althea Jane was the only thing stopping me from beating the shit out of Jordan right now. As she lay fast asleep on my chest, my thoughts of how I wanted to hurt him rested on my mind. How many times had I told them to never raise their fucking voices with her? And that he made her think that he was going to hurt her? Oh, that made me want to fucking kill him. I may have said 'strike two', but as far as I know, that was his last fucking chance before I give him a not-so-gentle reminder of how to behave around her.
Taking me out of my thoughts, however, was Althea shifting in her sleep. I smiled at the mess of curls that had mysteriously developed considering she had fallen asleep with her hair in a ponytail.
"Don't do this- Aaron please- please don't-" Once again, like every time she dreams of this, my heart broke in a million pieces.
I let go of her so that she doesn't feel the pressure of touch and called her name out repeatedly, waking her up. It was always so difficult seeing her like this, knowing that she was hurting and not being able to do anything to help. I didn't want to hold her since I knew that while I am her soulmate, I am also a guy. And right now, the last thing she needs is to have a guy in her space.
"I'm so sorry for waking you up." She mumbled, putting her hands to her face and looking down at her lap.
"No apologies, Althea darling." I whispered, inclining my head to try to get a look at her. Fuck, I wanted all of her pain to go away, to transfer to me, to someone else, anything for her to not feel this way. I was raised to not wish harm on anyone, but she was the exception. For her, I would do anything.
"I'll be back, I just need a minute." She whispered, but we both knew she needed more than a minute. She needed to go back in time and never go to that party, never go to his house, and never trust him. She needed years, a lifetime even, but to avoid worrying me, she'll condense that to a minute.
"Ok love, I'm going to go get you breakfast." I sighed, feeling unable to do anything to help her.
I left the room with one idea in mind - I needed to find Elise.
Disregarding anyone in my path, I rushed to the kitchens and got her her favourite breakfast and then went to the dining hall, sure to find her best friend. Pushing past a dick from Hufflepuff, I stalked over to where Elise was sitting with Cedric and all of their friends. When we made eye contact, she stood up with an expression full of worry, and for the first time, I understood how Elise and Althea wordlessly communicate. After knowing her and her knowing me long enough, Elise and I had gotten quite good at communicating - especially when it is about Althea Jane.
She didn't address her soulmate as she hurried to the doors, reminding me, once again, how loyal Althea and Elise are to one another - They will always prioritize one another. "It happened again, but this one was bad El. She couldn't even start to pretend she was fine." At this, Elise took a despairing breath, aware that if Althea didn't even try to convince you she was ok, there was a serious problem.
"Give me that." She ordered, taking the breakfast straight from my hands and immediately dumping half of the food on the plate, leaving only two pieces of plain toast and the coffee.
"What-" I stated, confused as to what the logic was behind this. How could this possibly be beneficial to Althea, who already has to be forced into eating a full meal?
"-I know what I'm doing." She responded, and as the best friend who knew the girl like the back of her hand, I let it go. Right now was not the time to test Elise.
