Ep. 8 "The Collector" Ch. 2/3
•——— ——— —•——
House after house, every last one came up empty. The occasional Z, though those were very few too, and they found no Murphy at all.
Joy missed her naive days of believing chicken nuggets would be her lords and saviours in the apocalypse just so she at least had an alternate mission that didn't solely revolve around finding Murphy because that was dreadfully boring.
"Murphy! Murphy! Come on, man." Doc was also starting to act like Joy because he hadn't stopped complaining about how Murphy ran off from the second they started looking into the town.
Murphy was like that one rabid chihuahua old ladies had that seemed all innocent, then bit your hand off and ran into the sunset to keep procreating more little tiny devils.
"Alright we need to fan out, or we won't find Murphy by nightfall."
"Dibs on 10K." Warren sighed, she was really not having a day to deal with Joy's shenanigans.
"Fan out means everyone takes a different direction, J.F."
"Oh, I know what it means, I just don't care, I'm going with 10K." Warren signed before beginning to walk away into a randomly selected direction, she didn't have the energy to argue with Joy.
Joy happily skipped next to 10K as she swung her hatchet by her side, 10K with his rifle at the ready in case of a Z popping up, or worse, a human, or even worse, a Murphy.
"What do you want for your birthday?" 10K shrugged, looking through a couple of windows before motioning at Joy to keep moving across the street, no Murphy either.
"Nothing."
"Oh, c'mon everyone wants something, they just say nothing because it's easier."
"Get me a can of beans then."
"And have to smell your farts all night? Hard pass. Gimme something else." 10K just shrugged, he had to be the worst person to get gifts for.
10K always got the perfect gifts for everyone yet when it came to his birthday, Joy never knew what to get him. Every time she asked, he'd either reply with some very vague description like 'something useful' or he'd just say nothing, and Joy would always without fail have to guess what that nothing was.
10K was lucky Joy loved him; otherwise she'd bash his skull in.
Joy wished Cassie were there, she'd at least be some good help to understanding the puzzle that was 10K. Though Joy had spent practically ten years with that same puzzle, and she didn't even know where to start so who knew how much help would Cassie truly be.
