As the Bad Batch moved deeper and deeper into Deika City, the influence of the Meta Liberation Army was felt. Jiro was especially uneasy about the stares she and the rest of the Bad Batch were getting.
Jiro: They're just...staring at us.
Hunter: They're probably just trying to get under our skin. Let us know we're not welcome.
Tech: Perhaps they are scouting us.
Wrecker: Let's just find Crosshair and get out of here!
With that, the Bad Batch continued searching the city for Crosshair while the people of Deika City stared at them. The deeper they moved into the city, the less people they saw. While Jiro was quick to take a deep breath, Hunter and the rest of the Bad Batch kept their guard up.
Hunter: Don't let your guard down, Echo. Just because you don't see anyone doesn't mean you're safe. There could be others hiding somewhere, preparing an ambush.
Jiro nods as the Bad Batch begins searching through all the possible locations that Crosshair could be hiding. During all this, Omega followed the Bad Batch. When they closed in on the final location, Hunter gestures the rest of the Bad Batch to halt. Hunter looks around all possible vantage points that Crosshair could be using. When he sees nothing, Hunter alone approaches the building. Suddenly, a shot was fired at Hunter, hitting the floor in front of him. Without hesitation, the Bad Batch took cover.
Hunter: Can anyone see where the shot came from?!
Jiro: I...I can't see anything!
Hunter: Tech?! Did you get anything?!
Tech: The shot came from south from our current position!
As Tech says this, the sound of what appeared to be a battle was heard nearby. Soon enough, a voice was heard on the radio.
Crosshair(Radio): Hello, Hunter.
As Crosshair's voice was heard on the radio, the Bad Batch were stunned. After a moment of uneasy silence, Hunter communicates with Crosshair.
Hunter: Crosshair....
Crosshair(Radio): I knew you'd come here. You're getting predictable.
Hunter: Do you have any idea of the damage you've caused?! What you've done?!
Crosshair(Radio): I know exactly of what I've done, Hunter. I'm doing what needs to be done.
Hunter: We're taking you down, Crosshair. One way or another.
As the Bad Batch found themselves in Crosshair's sights, Crosshair surveys the Bad Batch's position on top of a building. He aims his 773 Firepuncher Sniper Rifle at his former comrades. Soon enough, Crosshair spots Omega not too far behind the Bad Batch. Back on the ground, the Bad Batch tries find a way out of their predicament.
Wrecker: Let's get him!
Tech: That would be a bad idea. Based on the trajectory of the shot, Crosshair has to be at a vantage point at least 10 kilometers. I'm sure as soon as we move, Crosshair will have a clear shot at as.
Jiro: Well what do we do?! If Crosshair keeps us pinned down like this, then we'll have the Meta Liberation Army and the League of Villains on us!
Crosshair(Radio): Bold of you to bring the kid here in the lion's den, Hunter.
Hunter: Echo is as part of this squad as you were.
Crosshair(Radio): I wasn't talking about Jiro.
When Crosshair said this, Hunter was confused as to what he meant. He looked behind him to see Omega hiding behind cover. Shocked, Hunter looks at the building behind her. Seeing the glint from Crosshair's rifle in the distance, Hunter runs out of cover and to Omega. He grabs Omega and begins running back to where the rest of the Bad Batch were. Crosshair then fires a shot at Hunter and Omega, hitting Hunter in the shoulder. The shot knocks Hunter to the ground.
Omega: Hunter!
Omega attempts to drag Hunter to cover, but he was too heavy for her. Jiro rushes in and helps Omega drag Hunter to cover. As Tech and Wrecker join Jiro and Omega, Hunter groans.
Omega: Hunter! Are you okay?!
Hunter: I'm fine, Omega. I got tagged, but I'll live.
Omega hugs Hunter tightly.
Hunter: What are you doing here, Omega? I told you to stay in the Marauder!
Omega: I...I wanted to help!
Suddenly, loud crashing was heard as several buildings were seen crashing nearby. Screams were heard not too long after.
Jiro: What....what the hell was that?
Hunter: Looks like the League and the Meta Liberation Army is fighting each other. Whatever they're doing, they're both bringing heavy firepower.
Tech: Might I recommend a tactical retreat?
Wrecker: What about Crosshair?!
Hunter: Tech's right. The mission's gone to hell. Crosshair's got the high ground. If we try to capture him, he'll pick us off one by one. The only way we could approach Crosshair, we'd have to slowly move from cover to cover. By the time we'd get halfway close, the League or the Meta Liberation Army will be right on top of us.
The reality of the situation became clear to the Bad Batch. Making an attempt to capture Crosshair meant putting themselves in the crossfire between the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army. Left with no other choice, the Bad Batch were forced to retreat. Crosshair simply watched from his vantage point as the Bad Batch got on the Havoc Marauder and departed from Deika City. As they escaped, Crosshair simply lays down his rifle and rejoins the League. Moments later, the entire city seemed to be leveled by some outside force. But as Deika City was leveled, the Bad Batch soon realized that this was only the beginning.
