The Bad Batch (Star Wars X My Hero Academia)

Chapter Forty Seven - Massacre

After escaping the chaotic battle of Jaku City, the Bad Batch along with Omega and the Backup Team took time to process what had just happened. As Tech flew the Havoc Marauder to where Midnight and the other Heroes were when beeping was heard. 

Tech: Someone's trying to make contact. 

Hunter: Patch it through. It's probably Midnight. 

As Tech patches the Havoc Marauder through to the person attempting to contact them, Hunter speaks. 

Hunter: Midnight, is that you? We're on our way to your position.

Crosshair(Comms): Hello Hunter. 

As Crosshair's voice was heard, Hunter and the rest of the Bad Batch were stunned into silence. It didn't take long for Yaoyorozu and the other students to notice the silence. 

Yaoyorozu: What's going on?

Hunter remained silent as he tried to gather his thoughts. After a moment, Crosshair spoke. 

Crosshair(Comms): Did you find what you were looking for in the Jaku General Hospital? Or did your stand in Jaku City amount to something?

Hunter: You've been watching us.

Crosshair(Comms): I thought about picking your off in Jaku City, but then I saw the so called "Heroes" making their stand. They held their own....until they started getting picked off one by one. Some of them managed to escape, but someone stayed behind.

As Crosshair said that, heavy breathing could be heard on the other line. It didn't take long for Hunter to realize that it was Midnight that Crosshair had at his mercy. 

Hunter: Midnight.....

Yaoyorozu: Miss Midnight?! Is she alright?! 

Mineta: She....she has to be alright. She's a Hero, right? 

Hunter: Crosshair, it's not too late to turn back. Turn yourself in and we can.....

Crosshair(Comms): There's no turning back, Hunter. Not after what I've seen. For too long, these so called "Heroes" have made a mockery of the title. Look at Midnight. She claims the title of Hero, yet parades around like a whore. 

Yaoyorozu: Y...you're wrong! Midnight is an amazing Hero! She....she....

Jiro: Crosshair.....you don't have to do this! 

Crosshair(Comms): That line has already been crossed. 

What followed the sound of a gunshot. The sound echoed in the Havoc Marauder, horrifying the students. The silence was deafening. While some of them held on to hope that Midnight was still alright, Hunter knew the truth. Omega watched the anger on Hunter's face. 

Hunter: Crosshair.....no matter what happens.....I will hunt you down and make you answer for everything that you've done. If you think I'll let you run.....

Crosshair(Comms): By the time you reach this position, I'll be long gone. Not even your Quirk will be able to track me. I'll be seeing you soon. 

With that, the comms were cut. Hunter tightly gripped his fists in anger as he turned to Tech.

Hunter: Get us to Midnight's position.  

Tech nodded as he flew the Havoc Marauder to Midnight's last known location. Yaoyorozu and the other students held on to hope that somehow she was still alive. As they arrived at the forest, they saw a tattered landscape.

Kirishima: Man...they really tore this place up.

Mina: Do you....do you think Midnight and the others are okay?

Sato: They....they have to be fine. They're Pro Heroes.

As Sato said that, there was a sense of dread in the air. The silence in the forest gave no comfort to the students who began to grow anxious. The Bad Batch took the lead and surveyed the area. It didn't take long before they came across a horrifying sight. They were met with the sight of the lifeless bodies of many Pro Heroes. Majestic's body was among the Heroes. 

Yaoyorozu: Majestic....this....this.....

As Yaoyorozu struggled to comprehend what she was seeing, the Bad Batch saw bullet wounds on some of the Heroes. 

Tech: Some of these Heroes were shot. Based on the trajectory of the shots, the shooter had to have made them from elevated positions. 

As Tech says this, the other students quickly spotted the body of Midnight. Immediately, the other students rushed to Midnight, hoping that she was okay.

Yaoyorozu: Please....say something....

Kirishima: She's....how.....

Sato: She....she was fine....you guys heard her.....

As the gravity of the situation began to dawn on them, many of the students broke down into tears. Tech walked over to Midnight's body and inspect it. 

Tech: She was killed by a single shot to the head. However.....

Hunter: She was executed. Close range. 

Kirishima: Wake up!

It was at this point that Jiro stepped forward. 

Jiro: Mina....Kirishima....she's gone....

Kirishima: N...no! She can't be gone! She can't be.....

Mineta: It...it feels like a nightmare. This can't possibly be happening.....

As Mineta said that, a feeling of despair was felt among the entire group of students. As for the Bad Batch, they felt an immense feeling of guilt due to the role Crosshair played in this massacre. It wasn't long before Omega spoke to Hunter. 

Omega: A....are you okay? 

Hunter paused as he tried to find the words to express his feelings on this massacre. He turned to the students, seeing the look of horror on their faces. After a moment, Hunter spoke up.

Hunter: Midnight and the other Pro Heroes gave their lives here. There's....there's nothing we can do about that. But they gave their lives believing that we....that we would be able to carry on the fight. To that end......we must honor that. We....we cannot let their deaths be in vain. We....we still have work to do. But I promise that every Villain will answer to this.....

Wrecker: What do we do with Midnight and the others? 

Hunter: We're not leaving them here. Not like this.

With that, the Bad Batch gathered the bodies of the fallen Heroes and brought them aboard the Havoc Marauder to deliver them for a proper burial.  But what none of them realized was that this was not the end, but the beginning of something far more terrible. And in the days to come, truths would be uncovered that would further weaken the foundations of Hero Society and cause the public to further lose faith in Heroes.
