"Stay right here," Lincoln orders just as I am reaching for the door handle.
"What? Why?" I remark with a furrow of my brows.
"I need to set up first. So close your eyes." He smiles sweetly and I settle back with a resigned sigh.
"Fine." I cross my arms across my chest. "I hope you know this is me trusting you."
"I know. I don't take it for granted," he says and a moment later catches me by surprise by dropping a kiss onto my lips.
My eyes split open, widening at his sinful grin. "Just needed to sneak one in. It's been too long."
Leaving me stunned, he exits his truck and I see him pull something from the trunk.
"No looking!" He shouts to remind me and I do as he says.
I close my eyes once again and feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket not long after he's out of sight. Yeah, I may have ogled his retreating back for a second or two there.
Shaking those thoughts out of my head, I pull out my phone.
Isaiah: Hey, sweet tea, football season is approaching. I consider you my lucky sports tee! Coming to the first game?
I completely forgot about football season. Not that I ever really cared for the sport but having a football player in the family along with his friends? It's a miracle if I wouldn't hear the word every day.
I bite down on my lower lip, contemplating what to type back.
Me: Hey Kingston, I've been having fun thank you for asking. You know I hate football games.
There. Easy enough.
I don't even want my best friend to know about what Lincoln and I are doing. Who knows what he would even say?
Besides, there's a possibility whatever is going on with Lincoln will be short-lived. Add to the fact I don't want to ruin his friendship with Maxon if he becomes my accomplice.
Isaiah: Not even for me? *pleading emoji face*
Me: Have work.
Isaiah: I'm sure Linc wouldn't mind. We'll be playing Minnesota soon. I'll pay for your flight as I normally do :)
I began nibbling on my lower lip.
Me: When?
His response is immediate.
Isaiah: Your birthday weekend.
I groan just as another message comes in.
There's no way he's going to let me out of it now.
Isaiah: Come on! It'll be fun! Your siblings haven't seen you in a while and with college coming soon for them...they'll see you even less :'( It's been too long sweet tea! I need my best friend cheering me on! At least one game. I promise I won't bother you all season.
