The papers in the man's hand drooped as he observed the scene before him, his eyes looking down at the sleeping figure with a tinge of longing. He didn't know if he wanted to be fast asleep like her or if he...
No.
He wanted—had to sleep. He shook his head to break away from the clutches of his sin. The moment he thought about succumbing to it then he would be rendered helpless. He focused his gaze back onto the woman's bare ankle, ghosting his fingertips against the surface of her skin. She was once again nameless. An inaudible sigh escaped his lips and his eyes glowed.
His vision changed as a murky white coated everything like a sticky hazy mist. The only things that stood out against the white filter was the dimly lit candle on the nightstand that was a bright reddish orange. The man looked at his hands to see that they omitted a faint green before he turned his gaze onto the sleeping human.
Much to his distaste, a faint golden color radiated off of her. No longer did he see the vibrant multicolored glow that she had when she first arrived. He frowned when he turned his gaze to the cat in her arms, the creature was a unique black color with blue undertones. However the cat wasn't glowing, oh no, more like absorbing any light that dared to touch him.
The man blinked away the glow of his eyes and his vision went back to normal. The pair on the bed were not normal, they far exceeded what normal was. It made him scoff, there weren't even any normal house cats in hell. He took a seat at the edge of the bed and let the papers he held drop onto the floor before wrapping his fingers around the woman's ankle and pulling her down towards him. He stopped when her legs were strewn on top of his thighs before moving his hand to gently pat her cheek to wake her up.
The cat awoken from his slumber and hissed at the intruder who pressed the index finger of his other hand to his lips to shush the cat. Leaf meowed and jumped off the bed, sparing the demon one last glance before leaving the room to who knows where.
(Y/n) began to stir due to the unwelcomed patting against her cheek. Her lashes fluttered open and her fuzzy vision took awhile to clear before she spotted a familiar grey haired demon. "—Haitham...?" She tiredly mumbled and rubbed her eye.
"I went through your findings. As you suspected, it'll be hard for us to find any witches responsible for closing the gate to the overworld."
"What happens now...?" (Y/n) covered her mouth as she yawned.
"There has to be an in-person investigation of the gate for us to gather more evidence. It'll be useless looking for clues without seeing the root of the problem first."
The human's drowsy state prevented her from noticing how much of her person space he took up. Nor did she notice how he seemingly loomed over her, enough for her to see the individual lashes that lined his eyes.
"Are... are you going out to investigate?"
He shook his head, "No, I'm sending you to check it out."
She looked at him shocked, his words acted like a splash of cold water that slapped the drowsiness from her, "What?" The flashbacks of being chased down by rifthounds—she learned that's what they were called when she came across it in an encyclopedia—played in her mind and she found herself gripping onto the demon's white shirt. "I—I don't want to go out there... please, please don't send me out there," eyes wide as she looked at him terrified. Alhaitham could see the anxiety take over her.
