This wasn't something he'd ever expect. The pulsing of what felt like his brain caused him to wince. A physical reminder of his struggles—but the warm hand of (Y/n) on his arm acted like an anchor, it kept him steady. It reminded him that decisions made in this moment had consequences.
All he could think about is who'd he put first.
Himself or (Y/n)?
He avoided looking at her (e/c) eyes even though she was right in front of him.
But (Y/n) said nothing. In fact, she was just as stumped as he was in this moment. She didn't take account for something like this to happen, in fact, she was ashamed to know so little about Itto's predicament regarding his memory. Zhongli only told her that the Avatar of Envy was struggling with his identity.
She didn't know that the poor man literally lost all of his memories of the past. Memories could be seen as a part of who a person was, they were what shaped a being.
"I..." Itto began. He felt like he knew the right answer for him, but was too scared to say it.
"Itto..." A sad smile formed on (Y/n)'s lips. Envy's red orbs still refused to meet hers, but they stared at her lips—and knew right away that she knew his answer.
"It's—that's okay..." The witch took a shaky breath. "I'll find a way." I'll find a way out for you. She patted his arm, "But don't think I'll let you catch me that easily."
The warmth from her hand was long gone before he could give her an actual verbal answer. The moment he lifted his gaze to look around... all was left behind in the woods were him and his so-called friend Shinobu.
The Avatar of Envy's fists shook, "Was it... is the past even worth putting before the future? For my friends? Am I even making the right choice—for myself?!" His eyes screamed for help when they met the angel's purple ones.
Shinobu only sighed. "That's... only something you can decide for yourself. We lead ourselves through our own lives. What I believe is best for you may differ to the next person. All I have... is something you may find worth all the hassle." She glanced at the direction her target and her familiar ran off to. "Some will understand," she glanced back at him, "but are you willing to do whatever you can to live the life you want for yourself?"
Itto looked at her for a moment. "You... and I know each other. Don't we?" His headache still persisted, but he was positive that she was the one his memories were yearning for. Her hair... eyes... her mask. It was all familiar.
"Yes. We do." She nodded, her ponytail slightly bobbed in the air along with the ribbon that kept it up.
"Were we... close?"
The angel nodded and watched as the gears slowly turned in the demon's mind.
Despite not knowing the history between himself and Shinobu, Itto had a feeling they were the best of friends. It was something he was one-hundred percent sure on.
It was a shame. It was sad. How does one forget their best friend? How long had she lived with the knowledge that he was out there... somewhere but never bothered to search for her?
It made tears form in his eyes at the thought of searching far and wide for someone you cherish deeply... only for them to not even remember who you are once reunited.
