[CH 15] Celestia's Warning

The sputtering sounds of the witch only amused him even more. She looked up at him with wide eyes and he could see through them, and into the depths of her skull, witnessing the cogs turn.

"Is that why Childe said that only you could do... it?"

"It?"

She broke eye contact, "You know... intercourse... as another way to transfer energy."

The Avatar of Lust simply shrugged, "Who knows. Perhaps if you took me out for dinner first then I'll think about revealing my secret powers to you."

The deadpanned look on her face nearly made him laugh, "Please take this seriously."

"Take what?" He placed his hand on hers, which still gripped onto his shirt. "Is there something of utter importance that you'd like to give me?" His half lidded eye stared down at her. Such a sight made her realize that the personification of lust didn't need to even try in order to look seducing.

She let go of his shirt and he let her hand drop as he fixed his top.

"You're infuriating." She forced herself to scowl.

"You sound like Diluc." He teased as he straightened out his shirt. "It's no wonder how you managed to get him to share his energy with you."

"I nearly died—again—using up too much magic. I think that's why he entertained the idea." She took a sip of her tea.

"It must've been quite the emergency if you took his right away instead of waiting for Childe."

"I don't want his."

"I figured." He mused as his primogem shaped pupil examined her. "Would you still have taken Diluc's if you knew it would've hurt?"

The human mindlessly let her finger trace around the rim of the cup, "I guess... even though he warned me that it wouldn't be 'good', I'm still walking around because of him. But... he seemed... ashamed of his energy? I think that's why he was hesitant at first."

"What a spot on observation," Kaeya praised her with a subtle nod.

"But why?" Curious (e/c) eyes looked at him.

"It's his sin. We all have one, a punishment for our deeds in the overworld in our past lives. The sin becomes intertwined with our existence—the soul—and if you've done something terrible in the past... then you can't really escape it."

(Y/n) finger paused its tracing over the rim of her cup, her eyes squinted as she thought, "In other words... his sin is something he's ashamed of?"

"Did you know that if you take the elemental energy of another then you're basically taking a part of their soul?"

"And he didn't want me to take any of his energy because he..."

"Didn't want you to end up with the burden of dealing with his sin of wrath," Kaeya finished, "or he knew that the pain of his element would hurt you and didn't want that to happen." The demon shrugged, "I'm not him though. So he might have other reasons only known to him."

A guilty look flashed across her face, "And I pressured him into giving me some."

Kaeya waved his hand dismissively, "You can't force someone like Diluc to do something. He did so under his own will. He did what he believed was the right course of action during an emergency."

"Right..." She softly murmured and finished her tea. The thoughtful look of her gentle eyes intrigued the demon of lust. He has been observing the former Sacrificial Lamb ever since her first appearance at the bar. She was a quick adapter, and took every personality into account when she interacted with them in order to display the appropriate persona. Some would've believed it meant she was fake, but she was being smart.
