"show me what you got!" mr. carlson said as he glanced between his two students who where currently sitting in front of his desk, waiting for him to start.

"alright, there are gonna be fifteen question with four answers you can choose. a, b, c or d. y'all obviously have to pick the right one. and the most important part, you two have to work together, okay?" mr. carlson raised his eyebrows at the two, especially emphasizing the word 'together' which made elaine hide her eye roll as matt clenched his jaw in annoyance.

"yes." elaine and matt spoke at the same time with not much enthusiasm as they silently send each other a side eye for saying it at the same time.

"first question!" mr. carlson spoke up with his finger raised as he leaned his upper back against the front desk, crossing his arms across his chest.

"which of these terms is not associated with mathematics? a, bracket. b, divide. c, calculator or d, alliteration?"

elaine's hand immediately went to the button in front of her on the desk, pressing it harshly before speaking up, "it's d, alliteration."

mr. carlson sighed loudly which made elaine's proud grin disappear in seconds.

was she wrong?

"the answer is right, don't worry." mr. carlson says after seeing elaine's face, which made the blonde girl sigh in relief but that didn't last long when his next words came, "but you didn't work together."

elaine glanced over at matt, who was already looking at her as he mockingly raised his eyebrows, trying to intimidate mr. carlson. she could only glare at him before she turned back around to her teacher.

"sorry."

"it's okay. let's do it again." mr. carlson send a encouraging smile towards the blonde girl before he looked down at the paper besides him, "what is the name of the spaceship which was involved in a disaster, the subject of a few films? a, apollo 13. b, coperal 14. c, beta 12 or d, double 15?"

elaine leaned towards matt's chair, "it's b."

"it's a." matt corrected her which made elaine furrow her eyebrows at him.

"it's clearly b." elaine repeated herself in hushed whisper as she crossed her arms over her chest which made matt shake his head at her.

"you agree? great." elaine fake smiled his way and before he had time to protest, she leaned forward and smashed her hand onto the button.

"it's b, coperal 14."

mr. carlson blinked at the two of them. he was able to hear the whole conversation between the two of them and he couldn't help but sigh again.

"wrong."

"what?" elaine gasped out as she sat further up in her seat with disbelief, which made matt smirk in satisfaction as he leaned back to cross his arms over his chest.

"that's why i said, you two have to work together. t-o-g-e-t-h-e-r, alright?" mr. carlson spelled it specifically out for elaine who let out a huff in defeat as she slumped back into her seat, ignoring the way matt's smirk was only widening.

"let's do that again!"

this was gonna be a long afternoon.
