. CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
🖤🖤🖤when matt heard it, he knew he needed to do something.
it was after gym class. matt just finished changing back into his clothes while he shuffled around inside his bag to put his sweaty clothes inside, after all the running that he did in today's class. when he finished packing, he swung it over his shoulder and started walking to leave the locker room but a certain someone made him stop.
he didn't intend to eavesdrop but when his eyes caught sight of steve standing around the corner with two of his friends, he couldn't help himself.
especially not when the talking theme was elaine.
"i heard you have something going on with the debate club girl?" one of steve's friends said, nudging his shoulder against the spoken boy with a cheeky grin.
"her name is elaine." steve grinned while he pushed his teasing friend away, who started doing kissing noises.
"you knocking up that slut?" the other one said with a breathy chuckle while he swung his bag over his shoulder.
matt felt his fist clench shut with anger at the way this boy spoke about elaine. he didn't liked the names that they were calling her and neither did he like the way they talked about her. he also felt himself frown at the thought of steve thinking about elaine like that.
steve's smile fell from his face when he looked over at the other boy, "don't talk about her like that."
matt didn't know if he was thankful for steve, that he was not an asshole or if he should be mad that steve isn't an asshole, which meant that he was actually good for elaine.
"chill out." the boy said with another chuckle which only made steve scoff.
"don't tell me to 'chill out'. you don't talk about females like that, it's disgusting. imagine someone would call you a man whore, wouldn't like that now would you?" steve sneered out to the boy, who felt his face fell while the other one stood besides steve with his glare fixated on him.
"i'm sorry."
"you better be."
matt hated the fact that steve was so nice. that's something that made him incredibly mad. steve was probably one of the nicest and most respectful men, you'll ever meet. he was a good man and a even better boyfriend. he was perfect for elaine and that utterly bugged matt, because of course his competition had to be flawless.
"so, you asking her to be serious and all that shit?" the other one besides steve said, turning away from the frowning boy in the corner.
steve felt himself grin at that thought before he nodded shyly, "we're gonna have our third date tonight and i wanna ask her to be my girlfriend."
"she's definitely gonna say yes. you're awesome, dude."
"thanks, man."
matt stumbled backwards into the wall, trying to avoid being seen because that would cause him a lot of embarrassment. he watched as steve's two friends left the locker room, steve getting left behind. matt heard how steve chuckled to himself and for some reason that made his blood boil, and before matt knew it, he came out of his hiding spot and right at the smiling boy.
"don't ask her."
steve almost jumped out of his skin at the sudden voice behind him. he turned quickly around coming face to face with matt.
