. CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
🖤🖤🖤

two weeks later

after matt had sent her the text, she responded with; yeah we do. but after that nothing came anymore from the brunette boy that so desperately wanted to talk to her, and neither did anything else come from the blonde girl who responded back to him that she wanted to talk.

it was just silence.

a sigh left matt's lips as he stared at the message from elaine that he just left on seen two weeks ago. he didn't even knew why he did that. he just left it like that and when she didn't send anything either, he had the feeling she wanted to leave it like this too.

"matt!"

"almost done!" he yelled back as he stood besides his bed, stuffing his lacrosse jersey inside of the duffel bag that sat on top of it, already filled with all the gear that he needed for the game. his final game.

it was the last game this school year but especially the last one for matt since this was his senior year. and everybody would be there, his parents, chris would be with him on the field and nick would be on the bleachers with cinzia, vera and elaine.

he felt a rush of excitement but also the feeling of nervousness at the thought of seeing her again. they both had been expelled for two weeks and today was both of their first days back, which meant they would see each other for the first time after their last talk in the car.

the door to his room bursted open, his head snapping around right when he pulled his zipper shut to see chris standing inside the doorway with an impatient look, "we gotta go, come on, matt."

"yeah, i'm done." matt sighed out as he swung the duffel bag over his shoulder, walking out of his room to follow behind chris, who kept a closer look on his brother. chris could practically smell how nervous his brother was and there was only reason that made him feel like that, elaine. it's always been elaine.

"so, you're gonna talk to elaine or what?" chris then broke the silence as they walked down the stairs to leave the house, nick and their parents already waiting in the car.

matt gave his brother a surprised glance, not having expected him to be so forward. he cleared his throat as he avoided eye contact with chris at all cost, "i hope so."

"you hope so?" chris raised his eyebrows at that while the two stood outside the front door now, matt currently locking the door, "i thought you guys are on good terms?"

"we-we are...kind of."

"kind of?"

matt sighed with frustration as he rubbed a hand over his face while he swirled the keys around between his fingers, "it's just been silent between us."

"so...you guys haven't texted or anything?" chris asks with raised eyebrows, kind of not believing the fact that matt was this dented. that he just let's the girl slip like that again.

matt only nodded his head at that to which chris scoffed loudly, "you have absolutely no game at all, matt."

matt looked rather offended at that as he opened his mouth to talk right back at his brother, but he was quick to slip into the backseat of the car with a grin on his face as he saw the look on matt's face. matt huffed out a breath while he climbed into the back of the van as well, immediately getting terrorized by nick for apparently, being slower than a grandma.
