. CHAPTER FIFTEEN
🖤🖤🖤"elaine, wake up."
her eyelids slowly opened up at the voice entering her ear drums and she immediately regretted it when bright light shined right back at her. a groan leaves her lips when she feels how heavy her eyelids are stuck together like someone poured glue over her.
"well, good morning there."
she ripped her eyes now fully open to come face to face with matt, which made her almost jump in surprise when she saw his face right above her own one. with one swift movement she pulled herself up from the laying position to take a good look around.
elaine was inside a driving car, which she soon recognized as the one who saved them from the road.
"you alright, sweetheart?" the woman in the front seat, who's name is jessie, asks as she gave a concerned look at the absolute exhausted look on the girl's face.
"yeah." elaine replied back with a weak smile at the attempt to somehow be more motivated as she felt like going back to sleep already.
her head turned to her left side to take a good look at matt.
she doesn't know how long it has been since she fell asleep but she remembered the visit at the hospital, where they took good care of him before he was able to leave again. after that the two teenagers explained their situation to the two adults, jessie and bob, who where absolutely distraught by the story. eventually the two offered to take elaine and matt to los angeles and back to their team, they even needed to go into that direction which made it much easier for the two teens to say yes.
matt's wounds haven't healed yet and you could see them very clearly but at least they got taken care of, so it wouldn't get worse.
"we're almost there." bob suddenly mentions as he send a grin through the rear view mirror.
seems like elaine slept pretty much the whole drive after they got into the car to head to los angeles.
her face immediately lit up at the news as she didn't try to fight the excited smile on her face. elaine looked over at matt, who wore the same face as she did.
"you kids made it."
the two where so glad to finally hear these words.
it almost felt unreal to elaine when she stepped out of the car and saw the people she's been away from for almost 2 days. which didn't even feel like 2 days but rather weeks.
after they entered los angeles, elaine was able to use jessie's phone to call mr. carlson after both of the teenagers data gave up. she talked to mr. carlson who immediately informed everybody that the two are even still alive and then send the location.
so, the smile on her face was unbeatable as she made eye contact with cara, who's face seemed to lit up as she spotted the familiar blonde head. the debate club stood in a circle with their eyes scanning the crowd for the two missing team members.
"elaine!" cara shouted out as she ran towards her which made a laugh escape elaine when their body's collided with each other, "i'm so glad you're okay!"
"me too." elaine chuckles out as she pulls away from the hug to see everybody else approaching them now too.
when her eyes met mr. carlson's, she froze for a second. she was afraid of how mad he possibly was, he lost two of his students who got put into his hands. she doesn't even wanna think how much shit he got to hear from her parents and matt's probably too. not to mention that the principal probably threw a whole tantrum.
