. CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
🖤🖤🖤

elaine couldn't be happier as she walked through the school hallways with a smile wider than ever.

she just won the competition against matt, which made her be crowned for the captain of the debate club this year.

the way he wore a scowl throughout the whole time, not taking his eyes away from her while he clenched his jaw in annoyance. that reaction from him, made elaine's day. she didn't even fight the smile on her face at his defeated looks.

she loved seeing him lose because that's what he deserved after the shit he pulled with her.

her feet where dragging her across the empty hallway as most of the students where still in class, besides the one who had a free period.

she was so focused on matt's angry face that replayed in her head over and over, she didn't even realize the figure that came her way.

more specifically, that came right into her way.

elaine gasped at the sudden harsh body colliding with her own one as she heard something hit the ground beneath her. her body stumbled backwards but got barley caught by two hands around her waist. her eyes widened in panic when they locked with a pair of brown ones, which where so dark that she could see her own reflection inside of them.

"i'm so sorry!" the boy above her rambled with a worried face as he pulled her back up, so that she could stand safely back on her feet.

heat rushed to her cheeks when the boy continued rambling, his arms gently grabbing the sides of her arms to make sure she was okay.

he was cute.

"i'm okay!" elaine managed to giggle her words out as she picked up on the way, the boy's breathing picked up with panic when she didn't say anything.

at the sound of her adorable laugh, he relaxed as a smile came over his face when he calmed enough down to take a good look at her face, and he almost dropped his jaw at how beautiful she was.

he was wondering how he's never noticed her before.

"that's good." the boy replied back with a small chuckle of his own while he raised his hand to awkwardly scratch the back of his neck.

elaine bit the inside of her cheek as she couldn't stop smiling at him.

what's wrong with her?

"i'm elaine." she said with a grin while stretching her hand out to him.

only then did it hit her that he would definitely recognize her by her name. everybody knew her because of the rumor and she was sure that if he hadn't noticed it yet, he definitely would now. that made her frown for a second but when he took her hand in his own one, she was surprised.

the boy smiled widely at her, "i'm steven, but please don't call me that. steve is better."

"okay, steve." elaine spoke as she took her hand away from steve's, which immediately made her hand a little bit colder at the sudden separation of his warmth.

he chuckled before leaning down to pick up the books that fell from his hands. elaine leaned down too, helping him, which made a slight flush come across steve's cheeks at the gesture.

"so, steve, how come i've never seen you around before?" elaine asks as she decided that this boy was cute and sweet enough to flirt a little bit around, especially since she's in such a good mood right now.
