it's us against the world... (matt's pov)

It's just a regular Friday and milly is at the theater rehearsing for her play and I'm at home reading some scripts and some new material my agent has been sending me during the last couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I'm also trying to plan the surprise for milly's birthday. She told me she didn't want a birthday party or anything too crazy, but I do have a surprise I know she is gonna love which is her mom and brothers are coming to London to visit, and they'll be arriving the night prior to her birthday just in time to have a nice family day at the house. I don't think if she's gonna want my family to be present as well as hers since they haven't met before, we have only met each other's close relatives, but let's see if I can talk to her about it without blowing the surprise of her mom coming.

I also have a dinner plan with our castmates and close friends the same night of her mum's arrival, so that way she doesn't suspect anything. Her mum has every instruction to arrive safely to milly's flat and then on her birthday I will surprise milly with her first gift and just in time as I was having these thoughts, my sister Laura calls me:

"Hello, Laura, how are you?", I said. My sister means everything to me, has been my best friend since I was born.

"Hey, you. I'm good and you matty, how have you been?", she says, and I laugh at her nickname for me.

"Really good and what a surprise because I was about to call you."

"Really, and why would you be calling me for?", she asked, and I can imagine her surprise face.

"I've been thinking on your invitation for me and milly to your barbecue with your family and I'd love to go, but mills is still nervous about meeting more people who doesn't know about us and will find out about our relationship on that spot and is mostly because she has been nervous ever since the paparazzi got pictures of us while she went to visit me on set and I've been too, to be honest. I just want this for us a little bit longer, you know? and I do trust you and your in-laws, is just the rest is who I don't trust enough, and I don't want the day to be awkward or anything."

"And I completely get it Matthew, mum and I talked after you had your conversation with her and I want you guys to be safe here at my place and I have invited people you know very little or not at all and they will be here but can't do anything about it without giving more reasons that I should or be suspicious, you know? but believe me, your happiness and safety for you both is important to me and I have never seen you this happy before, so don't worry about it if you can't make it. We'll have more opportunities to hang together and for our families to meet when the time is right."

"Thank you Lau, I appreciate it so much and I know mills does too. So, next Friday is her birthday and I've been thinking on hosting a small dinner between us and you and mom and her mom and brothers who are coming to surprise her, but is not confirmed yet, since I wanna ask her about how she'd feel to have both families together for the first time, but she also doesn't know her mum is coming, is a surprise."

She laughs at my nervous tone and says, "oh man, she is getting the surprise of a lifetime, isn't she? I like that idea, let me know if it's happening and we'll be there. Your niece will be the most excited one since she loves birthday parties, even if she'll realize she'd have to share you."

"Oh no, I'm in trouble and I miss her. I hope it all works out, she deserves the best and I want her to have an amazing day."

"I just love seeing you happy bro and I'm happy you both found each other, so count me in in whatever you need my help with."

"Thank you. So, I have to leave to take Bobby out but talk to you late. Say hello to the kids for me and will see you soon. Love you."

"I will, love you, bye!"
