It's currently 3 pm in Saturday afternoon as I scroll rapidly through various online shops. If I order within the next four hours, I can get some new outfits delivered to me tomorrow for when I start work on Monday. Although my work clothes weren't awful before, I decide that I need to step up my game if I'm changing firm and want to make a good impression.
I eventually settle on a few outfits and confirm my order just before the time for next day delivery runs out, flopping backwards onto my bed in relief as I do so.
I wrack my mind, trying to think of what else I could possibly do to get off to a good start at Kento, eventually deciding to call some of my old clients from Carter to see what they're up to. Of course, my calls are purely on a friendly, non-business basis and I am definitely not trying to poach them as clients. But, if they did happen to want to continue to use me as their lawyer, I'm just making sure they know where to find me.
I leave cheerful voicemails at a few answer machines as no one picks up, not that I expected any immediate responses considering it's the weekend.
The next two days fly by, and before I know it, Monday has arrived. I wake up an extra hour early to get ready for my first day as I want to get into the office before other people arrive to get settled. I decide on one of my new outfits which consists of a white, silk, deep V-neck blouse with a black pencil skirt. I slip on my heels and grab my coat as I head out of my house. Despite the nice weather over the weekend, it seems that London has gone back to it's usual dreary weather for today. I take note of this and make sure to pack my umbrella in my bag for later.
I shut my door behind me and as I turn to the street I see a car parked opposite my house. It's a silver Bently and I begin to walk down the road past it, but I hear the engine come to life and the vehicle drives along side me. The driver's window rolls down and I see Suguru smiling back at me. I smile also at the sight of him.
"Thought you might want a lift on your first day." He says and I move round to the passenger door, thanking him as I get in.
"You're getting to work early." I comment as he turns the car around, heading in the direction of Kento's offices.
"Yeah, well, there's a partner meeting today so I have a couple things to prepare beforehand."
"Ah, I see, is there anything I need to do for it?" He glances over to me as I observe his face.
"You probably don't have to be there considering you're going to be just settling in and all. Don't worry about it if you don't want to come." He says and I get the feeling he doesn't want me to attend the meeting.
"I mean, if I'm in the building I might as well go." I respond as I turn to look out of the window, watching the streets begin to crowd with commuters.
"True. It's at 11, I'll come and pick you up from your office for it." He says and I smile at the gesture.
"Ooo, I forgot I would be getting a new office. That's exciting, decorating them is always the best part." I comment and he laughs in response at my pleasure derived from the small things in life.
We eventually reach the headquarters and before I can step out Geto comes round to open my door. It's something he's always done ever since we were at uni together. I thank him as I'm reminded of old times, before turning towards the expansive facade of the office building. It's made out of luxurious marble-like material, with ornate coving and large wall to floor windows for each meeting room and office.
Suguru breaks me out of my trance as I feel his hand on my back, causing us both to begin walking towards the entrance together. The inside somewhat contrasts the exterior, with a modern and classy feel using beige and white tones. Geto introduces me to the receptionist, who then hands me a new keycard which I use to pass through security.
