After I finish unpacking I head out of my room and down to the first floor of the hotel where I saw the bar and seating area earlier. I order myself a drink as I sit on one of the stools which is closest to the fireplace. I watch the flames wrap flutter and wrap around one another as I take a sip of my drink. My peace is disrupted when I hear the chair next to me scrape along the floor.

I turn to look at whoever it is, only to see Satoru ordering a drink for himself.

"I bet it's nice having a break from your family." I tell him and he turns his head in my direction.

"Yeah, it is." He says and I nod in response. "At least when I'm thousands of miles away they can't attempt to set me up on any dates." He says sourly and I laugh.

"Hey, it's a free matchmaking service." I point out as I nudge his side.

"I guess I should be grateful." He replies sarcastically before taking another sip of his drink.

"No, it would drive me crazy if I was in your position." I tell him and he raises his eyebrows in agreement. I look around the room in an attempt to find a new topic of conversation. "I'm sad you didn't bring James."

"And give that bastard a free vacation? No way." Satoru says. "He'd be on my back the whole time too." I roll my eyes at his response.

"I don't know... I think there's something more to him." I say ambiguously and this gets Satoru's attention.

"Like what?"

"We-el... when he was talking to me a few weeks ago, when you were sick, he was taking to me as if he cared about you."

"Of course he was. It's what my parents tell him to do." Satoru replies shortly.

"I don't think so, this was above and beyond for his job description."

"What did he say?" Satoru asks as his eyes flick to mine. It's obvious that he's worried about how much I know.

"Nothing much, just about you not getting hurt and things like that." I tell him and he diverts his gaze away again, satisfied with my response.

"He's just paranoid because of what happened-" Satoru begins but he's cut off when we hear someone call his name from behind him. I'd recognise that shrill voice anywhere, it's the same one which called his name when we were in the pool ages ago at Satoru's party. I see his expression fall flat and I give him a knowing smile as Sophia comes to his side.

"Satoru!" She says again, placing her hand on his arm which causes my tense smile to grow wider. Satoru keeps his face towards me as his eyes flick towards her.

"I didn't know you were coming." He lies to her and she laughs at his comment which wasn't even meant to be funny. She hasn't even looked at me yet, and I'm glad. I'd rather just remain invisible during this interaction. My eyes glance down to her room keys and the number tag on them.

'130' is what it reads. I pray that this means she won't be on the same floor as us, but I think I remember seeing a whole stretch of doors meaning she's probably on our corridor. I swivel my body so that I'm no longer facing Satoru but the bar instead as I swirl my drink around, watching the ice cubes collide with one another as I do so.

"Now you won't be lonely." I hear her say to him and grimace at her words. Could she be any more annoying?

"I'm busy right now." I hear Satoru say in response and I look over my shoulder at him. He's still facing me as she clings to his arm. I see her look in the direction he's been staring in and feel her glare on me as my eyes fix themselves on Satoru.

"Oh, hi, I'm Sophia." She says which causes me to look at her this time. She comes towards me with her arms open, is she really trying to hug me? I stick my hand out for her to shake before she can get any closer, which causes her to pause suddenly and retract her arms to her side. She grips my hand and we shake briefly.
