The dinner continues and I make pleasant small talk with everyone around me. As I finish my dessert and place my knife and fork together, Satoru's mother strikes up a conversation with me once again.
"Y/n, I was wondering if I could speak to you, there's something I would like to show you in the drawing room." She says and I smile at her.
"Of course." I say as I remove my napkin from my lap and place it on the table. Before I can get up and follow Satoru's mother's lead into the next room, I feel his hand place itself on my thigh. I look over to his face and his brow furrows slightly. He's giving me the option to back out now if I want to. I give him a small reassuring nod and smile as I put my hand over his and rise from my seat.
I move round to the other side of the table and follow Satoru's mother as I look over my shoulder back at where he's sitting. He gives me what looks like a worried smile, and this doesn't exactly instil confidence in me. I turn back around and push my way through the door to the drawing room to see Mrs Gojo standing by a desk at the far end of the room.
The room is large, yet cozy, with a burning fireplace, various artworks and embroidered sofas placed carefully around the room. I follow her and she gestures to the armchair to her left which I take a seat in, sinking further down than I would have expected as I have to readjust my posture. She takes a seat on a chair next to me before grabbing a file from her desk.
A file? Oh god, is this where I'm about to be ripped to shreds? She sighs before her eyes finally meet mine, her expression having shifted from what it was earlier as she gives me a cold stare.
"Y/n L/n." She states and I give her a smile.
"Yes." I say as she clasps her hand over the file in front of her, leaning towards me slightly.
"I've come across women like you before." She tells me and I let out a small laugh in confusion. "I know, it's funny." She says as she unclamps her hands, looking down at the file before her as she opens it. I can't see anything it says from where I'm seated though. "Satoru makes some... bad choices." She tells me and I give her a concerned smile.
"Do you think I'm a bad choice?" I ask her as I gesture to myself.
"I don't think his judgement is right when it comes to choosing a partner." She replies, skirting around the question but practically answering yes.
"What makes you think that?" I ask her and she looks back over to me.
"I'm going to be honest and blunt with you."
"That's all I ask." I respond and she clears her throat.
"Women like you, are only looking for one thing. Satoru's behaviour over the last few years has attracted some unwanted attention from people who are with him for the wrong reasons." She says and I lean away from her slightly in response to her cold demeanour.
"I'm offended that you think I'm with him for the wrong reasons." I respond and she lets out a scoff.
"Oh, please. As if we haven't heard that before."
"What makes you think that I have an ulterior motive?" I ask as she looks down to the file before her.
"F/n L/n." She begins, slightly mispronouncing my last name, but I let it go. "Daughter of a independent shop owner and a bus driver..." She reads out and my brow furrows, this isn't my information at all! I'll let her ramble on before I break it to her that I come from masses of generational wealth. "A net worth never exceeding £200,000 has run in the family for multiple years..." She continues in a bored tone and I begin to tune out her useless explanation of someone who isn't even me.
