During the final days of the trip my injury heals pretty well. It turns out I was right, it wasn't a broken rib and was just bad bruising. Satoru made me go to the doctor the following day because he claimed it 'looked worse than it did the evening before' even though I think he was overreacting. The trip draws to a close and as we land in London Shoko offers me her 20th apology of the trip for crashing into me when we were snowboarding. It seems she's been more affected by me getting hurt than I am.
"Seriously, it's fine, we were just as incompetent as each other." I laugh as Shoko goes to grab my bag out of my hand to carry it, in response I snatch it away from her. "You don't have to do that."
"No, I don't want you to hurt yourself anymore by carrying a heavy bag, give it here." She says as she extends her arm out again but I spin around, moving my bag from her grasp.
As I do so, Satoru reaches us and takes my bag out of my hand swiftly. I turn back around and smile at Shoko as she gives Satoru a displeased stare.
"I would have held it you know." She says to him as she crosses her arms.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Satoru says whilst dismissing her. "It's the least you could have done." He adds and I hit him in his chest. "What?" He says as he looks down at me.
"Stop it." I tell him and he rolls his eyes before conceding. As we wait for our suitcases to arrive, Satoru begins to speak to me.
"I was wondering if you wanted to stay at mine for a bit when we get back." He asks and I look up at him in surprise.
"I'd like that." I tell him as I try to hide the wide smile forming on my face.
Our bags eventually arrive and we say goodbye to Shoko and Geto as our Uber comes to take us home. I'm snapped out of my daze when I feel Satoru's hand graze mine as he extends it across the middle seat. I look over to him and watch as he too stares out of the car window. Finally arriving at my house, I step out of the Uber and Satoru does too, following me into my home.
I enter the kitchen and make a cup of coffee for the both of us, ensuring the bowl of sugar cubes is situated close to Satoru as I do so. "Why is it you want me staying at your house?" I ask him as he looks out thoughtfully into my back garden.
"Well, we missed out on our time together when we were away because of Shoko and her sub par snowboarding skills..." He begins sourly and I shoot him a questioning glare. "So I want to make it up now. We barely get any time together because of work, so this way we can maximise our out of office hours together." He says as he makes his way over to me, his arms wrapping around my waist from behind as he pushes his face into the crook of my neck.
"It's not like being in the office has ever stopped you..." I say with a laugh as Satoru kisses my cheek.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." He says before pulling away as I pour out the cups of coffee from the cafetière.
"How long do you want me to stay for?" I ask him, wondering if this is a couple of days to a week type thing or even longer.
"A few days maybe? A few weeks? However long you want." He tells me and I look down at the floor with a smile before taking a sip of my drink. I watch as he drops four sugar cubes into his coffee before stirring it. I'm pretty desensitised to his sugar addiction now, so I'm not really shocked anymore. I observe him as he raises the cup to his lips before taking a sip.
The smell of coffee reminds me of the office and a feeling of anticipation and worry fills my stomach. I dread to think what rumours will fill the workplace after the trip.
I turn to the side and look out of the window as my thoughts begin to consume me.
"What's wrong?" Satoru says from beside me and I turn to look at him.
