I wake up at five in the morning the following day and lift myself from Satoru's grasp whilst being careful not to wake him. I get dressed and take a shower back in my actual room where all my stuff is, before heading downstairs with my laptop.
If I'm going to have to do Satoru's work for the next few days then I need to get a head start in the mornings. Before I start work however, I dismiss James from the kitchen and make breakfast for both me and Satoru when he wakes up. I manage to make a fruit salad and pancakes from the ingredients in his well stocked fridge, and finally begin Satoru's work.
This gives me about four hours before he gets up, and I manage to complete a good chunk of what I needed to do. I'm startled when I hear the kitchen door open, and look over to see Satoru walk in with wet hair. He looks a bit better, the colour has returned to his cheeks and lips, but his eyes still look incredibly tired despite the long sleep he had yesterday.
I quickly switch tabs on my laptop, changing the screen to my work rather than his.
"Are you feeling any better?" I ask him as he sits himself down next to me.
"Yeah, thanks." He says but his voice still sounds pretty rough. "James outdid himself today." Satoru says as he gestures to the breakfast spread on the table.
"Actually, I made this." I say with a a smile.
"Oh yeah?" He says as he moves the pancakes towards him before beginning to eat. "I didn't know you were a chef." He praises and I laugh.
"I'm competent." I respond and he leans over my shoulder to look at my laptop screen.
"Working already?" He queries and I nod in response. "What time did you get up?" He asks and I tense at his questioning, I don't want him to find out that I've been doing his work.
"Not too early." I tell him vaguely as I wave my hand and he raises an eyebrow at me before turning back to his food.
"Don't burn yourself out." He says and I can't help but laugh at his suggestion. He has no idea.
"I won't." I respond as I give him a closed eyed smile and he pats me on my shoulder.
"About yesterday..." Satoru begins as I start to type away on my laptop once again. "I'm sorry if I seemed... clingy."
I look over to him and remember the state he was in. "Honestly, I didn't even notice, I was worried for you." I tell him. It's a lie. I did notice, but at the same time I was also incredibly worried for him, that's why I stayed by his side.
"Yeah, it was rough. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't broken any of the rules of our... agreement." He says and I give him a confused look. "I mean, when we agreed on what we're doing, we specified no attachment, so I just wanted to assure you that it wasn't attachment yesterday, it was the the circumstances."
I give him a blank stare as the words leave his mouth. I feel like I just want to scream in his face: 'YOU IDIOT, I'M ATTACHED TO YOU, DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE NOT ATTACHED TO ME WHEN YOU WERE JUST BEGGING ME TO STAY UNDER TEN HOURS AGO!' But I don't. I stare into his eyes, trying to find one sign that he might be lying, but I don't discover anything.
I turn back to my laptop calmly. "Don't worry, you didn't come off as attached." I lie and he sighs from next to me.
*SATORU'S POINT OF VIEW*
He's thankful that you've reassured him that he hasn't broken the rules of your agreement. You were the one who stated no attachment, so he was worried that you might be scared off by the way he acted yesterday and end what the two of you are doing. In truth, Satoru doesn't really know what that was yesterday. Sure, his words may have been influenced by his illness, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a sense of truth to them. He looks over to you as you continue to type on your laptop, so nonchalant about what happened. He wishes he could be like you, so in tune with your emotions, so detached.
