"Okay, let's go over it again." I tell Satoru as I adjust my hair in the mirror and he sits on the edge of the bed behind me wearing a white shirt and black suit.
"Again?" Satoru groans and I watch him in the reflection as he flops backwards in despair.
"Yes, again." I tell him and I shoot him a glare over my shoulder.
"Fine." He says as he props himself up on his elbows and I turn back to face the mirror in order to put in my earrings. "We first met at work when you joined as partner, where we immediately hit it off and have been together ever since." Satoru says simply and I nod in satisfaction as I smooth out my dress.
"Continue." I prompt him and he tilts his head to the side in boredom before speaking.
"It turns out that we had actually met beforehand, when you were waiting outside of your offices at your old job and it was raining so I offered you my umbrella." He finishes and I smile in relief.
"And that's our niche. Nice spin on our original story, don't you think?" I say as I smirk at him in my reflection, remembering how he had mistaken me for the woman he was going to have a threesome with that evening.
Satoru grins back at me. "I think I prefer our real story." He says and I laugh in response.
I let out a long exhale as I look over myself once more in the mirror, before finding another imperfection in my outfit which I fiddle with to adjust. I hear the bed shift from behind me and watch as Satoru gets up and makes his way towards me, his arms wrapping around my front as I look at us in our reflection.
"Don't be nervous." He tells me as he tightens his hold on my upper body, containing my fiddling hands in his by gripping them in his.
"Easy for you to say." I point out as I exhale deeply. Satoru leans down and places his face into the crook of my shoulder before trailing kisses up and down my neck.
"You're going to do great. I know it." He says and I nod slowly. "And if you don't do great, then I don't care. It doesn't make a difference to us."
"No. This is something I want to do for you." I tell him as I gaze back at him over my shoulder and he pulls back as I speak. "I'm going to make a good impression." I assure him.
"I know you will." He says before releasing his hold on me and checking his watch. "We should get going." He asserts and I finally tear my gaze away from the mirror and slide on my shoes.
We leave the house and a black SUV sits outside ready to take us to Satoru's family home. We both get in the back, and I peer round to the drivers side to see that none other than James is driving.
"Satoru, you didn't tell me James would be our driver!" I say as I give him a wave and Satoru rolls his eyes.
"He'll be at the table." Satoru says and James nods at me in the rear view mirror with a smile before beginning to make his way through Satoru's long drive.
"Really?" I say in surprise and James chimes in.
"Yes, as one of the longest standing butlers to the Gojo family, I have the privilege of sitting in on family meals." He says proudly and I smile as I look out the window.
"I don't know whether I'd call it a privilege, you could take my place any day." Satoru says and I feel bad for him. It sounds like he's had to endure these family events alone so far, but at least he'll have me tonight. I stretch my arm across the backseat and enclose his hand in mine as the car journey continues.
The Gojo family home is on the outskirts of the city, but this doesn't make it any less impressive. I wouldn't actually call it a home, it's more of an estate. The large coach drive with pristine bordering gardens is positioned next to a Georgian style mansion with what looks to be hundreds of bay windows.
