The next two weeks fly by and Satoru and my relationship stays as is. It simply consists of one of us showing up to the other's house in the evening, and then leaving in the morning. When he said he'd be taking up a lot of my time I didn't believe it at first, but after the last two weeks I've come to realise that he wasn't lying.
I've managed to subdue my feelings for him somehow too. Obviously I'm still overly attached, but I've mastered the art of hiding this from him so I don't jeopardise what we have at the moment. I don't want to scare him off after all. I still feel like I owe him something though... after he opened up to me about his family a few weeks ago and told me about the way they've been treating him I wasn't able to requite his intimacy.
If he opens up to me like that again then I'll share with him memories about my past and my family. It might mean that I overstep the boundaries we have placed between us, but hey, I'd rather try than hold back and never tell him anything.
I wait outside my door with my bag at my feet as Shoko's car pulls up in front of me. She winds down the window and gives me a smile as I put my bag into her boot before getting in the passenger seat.
"Are you excited?" She asks me and I have to feign enthusiasm.
"Very." I tell her and she gives me a satisfied smile. I know she's put a lot of work into organising this, so I need to make it count for her.
We drive to the airport and check through security together as we see Suguru and Satoru standing in duty free. They're both dressed casually for once, and look like a pair of out of place, off-duty models. Satoru looks up from his phone as his gaze meets mine. Well, I assume it does. I can't actually see his eyes because he's wearing sunglasses.
Suddenly Shoko grabs Suguru by his arm, dragging him off to another of the shops as he follows behind her reluctantly. Satoru and I watch as he looks back over his shoulder and rolls his eyes at us.
"We'll see you guys later I guess." He says and I laugh at his tired expression. Shoko's really going to make the most out of this trip that's for sure. I turn to Satoru and watch as he reaches down to my side. I step back instinctively before looking around.
"What are you doing?" I ask him, worried that one of the associates coming on the trip might see his act of PDA.
"I'll carry your bag." He says, reaching down to my hand again. I sigh as a wave of embarrassment and relief crashes over me. I can't believe I thought he wanted to hold hands or something.
"Oh, thanks." I say as I hand him my carry-on bag. We spend the rest of our time shopping around before making our way towards the gate we plan to depart from. As I take a seat next to Satoru, he begins to speak.
"There's something happening that you're not going to like." He begins and I look over to him in confusion. He's staring at his feet with his hands clasped together in front of him.
"What?" I ask but he doesn't respond with words. He looks up and past me to my right before making a small gesture in the direction he's staring in. I turn my head slowly, dreading what I might see.
"It wasn't my choice." He says and I search the airport with my eyes for what on earth he could be talking about.
"Satoru, what are you-" I begin with a laugh, confused by his odd behaviour. Then I see it. Or more precisely, I see her. Right before my very eyes I see Sophia lingering outside a Starbucks with her carry on about 20 meters away from us. My face falls flat.
"Okay..." I say as I turn back round to Satoru and he raises his head to look at me.
"It wasn't my doing." He says and I roll my eyes. I don't know whether he's telling the truth or not, he was the one to add the 'getting bored of one another' clause to our agreement after all.
