I enter to see a large, expansive table placed in the middle. Light floods into the room from the adjacent windows which span the right wall. At the far end of the table, there's an array of pastries and other delicacies arranged on a platter, with orange juice in an ornate jug and glasses places by the four seats towards the end.
I notice that there's even name cards paired up at each seat and I see that Satoru is positioned at the head. Shoko sits down before picking up a pain au chocolat and taking a bite out of it. I sit on the other side of her, next to the end of the table and where Satoru will be seated.
"Ugh, Yuji actually got the good ones this time." She says as she continues to eat the pastry hungrily and Geto pours us each a glass of orange juice. Despite the fact that I'm tempted by the food, I know that I'll end up with something in my teeth. As Shoko said, I don't want to give Satoru any reason to criticise me. I see Suguru check his watch in frustration.
"How he always manages to be late I'll never know." He murmurs before looking out of the window behind him. I follow his gaze, looking past him and out onto the view. We get a better perspective of the city from up here and it's nice to be so high in the sky. I begin to inspect the pieces of artwork on the adjacent wall as Shoko reaches for another pain au chocolat.
Suddenly, the large glass doors to our right are flung open and I see everyone swivel their heads in the direction of the noise. I firstly look at Shoko, who's attempting to push the remains of the pastry into her mouth before rubbing her hands together and on her skirt to clean them off. I look over to Suguru and he's rolling his eyes at whoever's entered.
I turn my head to the origin of the noise and I see it's a tall, white haired man wearing sunglasses. He doesn't look at us when he enters, his gaze is fixated on the window to his right as he paces the length of the table. He finally reaches his seat at the head before looking down at the pastries in the middle of the table.
"Are you kidding Shoko, you had all the pain au chocolat?" He says in exasperation and I look at Shoko who shrugs nonchalantly.
"You should have got here on time if you wanted some." She says back and Satoru clicks his tongue at her.
The room falls silent for a moment and I decide to fill the gap in the conversation by introducing myself. "I'm F/n L/n." I say, holding my hand out to greet his as I rise from my seat slightly. A smile spreads across his face as he meets my hand with his, holding it tightly before shaking it.
"Gojo Satoru." He responds and I practically have to wrench my hand out of his grip so I can seat myself back down. Geto rolls his eyes at Satoru's antics and I smile politely. "So!" Satoru begins, clapping his hands together loudly, causing me to jump. "What do we need to do? I'm a busy man with things to do, so I'd prefer it if this doesn't take up my whole morning." He says and Shoko pulls out a notebook with a checklist on it.
"Suguru, you need to... finalise the J.P. Morgan assets. I need to keep working on the AstraZeneca patents, and Y/n you can just work on the Amazon transaction for the rest of the day if it suits you. Now, for you Satoru-" She begins but she's cut off.
"Amazon?" He inquires, which causes me to look up from Shoko's notebook and meet his eyes. I can't actually see his eyes though, he's wearing sunglasses. He does look oddly familiar...
"New client. They're acquiring a chain of grocery stores in the US." I explain and he gives me a nod.
"I see, I heard that was Carter's case?" Pry much? I'm bringing in money, you should be happy.
"Yes, it was. When I worked there. I was the one managing the transaction. If they want to still use me as their lawyer despite me leaving Carter, then that's up to them." I say defensively and he throws his hands up in mock innocence.
