Suguru, Satoru and I all sit in the board room as Shoko stands to give a presentation. You might think that the presentation is about something important like firm finances or hiring protocol, but no, it's about the upcoming Christmas party. However, according to Shoko, this is the most important thing on our agenda.

Unsurprisingly, she's decided to go all out and hired a grand hall for the event.

"So, what do you think?" She asks as she turns to us with an expectant look.

I scan Suguru's face from opposite me and he's got his hand positioned over his mouth, concealing his expression. I look towards Satoru and he too looks nonplussed.

"I think it's great." I tell her as I kick Satoru under the table, causing him to start up in his seat and shoot me a confused glare. "What do you think, Satoru?" I ask him pointedly as he goes back to his relaxed seated position.

"Oh? Yeah, it's real nice." He says before placing his sunglasses on his eyes and leaning his head back. I look over at Suguru who's still got a blank expression on his face.

"Suguru?" I ask and he looks over to me startled, making it obvious that he wasn't paying attention.

"Yeah, it's good." He says as he gives Shoko a thumbs up. I give her a weak smile, saddened by their lack of enthusiasm and attentiveness.

"I love it. Christmas is great." I tell her and she nods in agreement.

"I know, but there's one thing..." She begins and my brow furrows. "I was wondering if we could kill two birds with one stone by doing our annual briefing this year at the party." She says and I give her an ambivalent look.

"Okay, what does that entail?"

"It's just a speech." She says and Suguru and Satoru groan in unison.

"They're making a big deal about it." She explains hurriedly. "But one of us has to do it..." She finishes and I bite my lip. Considering I only joined this year, maybe I could do it? It was a really big deal for Suguru and Shoko to get me a job as partner right away, so I could repay them by at least doing this.

"I'll do it." I say and her eyes light up.

"Really? You're the best." She tells me with a sigh of relief before turning off the projector. Satoru leans forwards in his chair towards me, propping his sunglasses onto the end of his nose so I can see his eyes above them.

"Enjoy giving the most boring speech of your life." He tells me and I roll my eyes. How bad could it really be?

Over the next four or so hours, I find out how bad it really is. Shoko's given me a list of all of the content I need to cover, and there's a lot. Not only that, but it's all pretty mundane stuff that no one in the crowd will be interested in.

I sigh as I get up from my desk and walk towards Satoru's office with the list of speech material. I enter and smile as him as I do so, trying my best to butter him up. I shut the door softly behind me and skip over to his desk as he eyes me suspiciously. Seating myself on the chair opposite him, I spin round, admiring his office before I ask him for a favour.

"What is it?" He asks as he continues to look down at his work.

"Well..." I begin, stopping my spinning as I lean forwards, folding my arms over the desk. "I was wondering..."

"No."

"You don't even know what I was going to ask." I pout as I look down at the papers before me. "And why won't you help me?" I say as I give him puppy dog eyes.

"You offered to do the speech." He states simply and I slump backwards in the chair.

"But Satoruuu...." I complain. "I didn't know what I was getting myself into. You should have warned me." I say as I flick through the pages mindlessly.
