Once the celebration on the pitch died down we started to make our way back to Hogwarts. The high from winning the game still very much coursed through my veins.
"Surprised to see that a muggle born could make a catch like that. Glad you were able to secure the win for Slytherin," a condnicending voice remarked. I turned from my friends to see Professor Pierce standing with Professor Black.
"Thank you Professor. I always strive to bring honor to the Slytherin name," I replied sarcastically.
"Very good!" Professor Black exclaimed, clearly not understanding my tone.
I smiled overly sweet and even bowed my head a little. "Always a pleasure Professors."
I heard a few stifled snickers behind me as Professor Black stood a little taller and smiled brightly. Professor Pierce seemed to pick up on my mocking and stared down his crinkled nose at me. I held his glare for a moment and then turned back to school.
"I love you," Sebastian whispered in my ear with a slight chuckle.
I smiled and was about to turn and kiss him on the cheek when the memories of what was said last night came crashing into me. If I kissed him now, what would people think of me. I saw other students kiss in the hallways and hold hands. I knew who was dating who, even if I didn't really care to, and I didn't judge.
The combination of remembering my grandmother and thinking of how disappointed she would be with the way I was choosing to live my life and the comments that they all made last night were eating away at my confidence. If my grandmother knew I had slept with a man before marriage.... That fact might wake her out of her years of haze.
Was that what everyone thought about me? Had Reggie, Marvolo and Ignatius just voiced what people have been saying behind my back? And poor Ominis. I needed to make sure he was okay too... He hadn't come to the to the feild after the game, which I understood. He didn't like being in huge chaotic groups of people if he didn't have to. I also could help but worry that it also had something to do with last night.
"Hey! Fix your face! You aren't allowed to do that today!" Imelda reprimanded.
I side eyed her.
"Fix it," she laughed and gestured to my face before walking away with a group of people.
Garreth gave a heavy sigh. "I guess we're destined to be rivals my dear sweet Veronica!"
"You're so ridiculous!" I chuckled as he walked off with Leander.
"Come on let's go clean up," Sebastian grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the common room.
"Yeah you smell." I nudged him with my shoulder.
"Speak for yourself!" He chuckled.
...
After we got cleaned up Sebastian and I snuck off to the Room of Requirement and hung out for a while. We read over the letter he'd received from Anne and I helped him crafted a reply. We talked about classes and homework while we tended to my plants and beasts. A few kisses were exchanged and then Sebastian and I cuddled up on the bed and he read a book to me. Eventually, I fell asleep curled up next to him. It was such a nice and peaceful day. It was always so easy to be around Sebastian, especially when it was just the two of us.
"All rested and ready to be the star of the party tonight?" Sebastian teased as we walked back to the common room.
"Not really..." I admitted. "After last night I would give anything to skate by unnoticed for a little while."
