Bucky sighed as he took another long swig of beer from the bottle. It was times like this when he wished that alcohol could have an effect on him or better yet some of Thor's special brew from Asgard.

All Bucky wanted to do was drown his sorrows, to numb the heartbreak that he'd been living through since Willow left. Just the thought of her had his heart clenching. Even now he couldn't figure out where it all gone wrong.

Up until she left, things had been good. Real good in fact and although she still didn't have her memories, Bucky was happy to make new memories together. He thought she was happy too but maybe she wasn't. Maybe he had just seen what he wanted to see.

Bucky was brought out of his daydreaming but the click of fingers in front of his face. Fingers that belonged to his soon ex friend if Sam tried that again .

Watching the pity on his friends face, made him want to escape and be anywhere but where he currently was. He didn't need anyone's pity and as is usual with his demeanour, he switched his grumpy mood back to full force "I don't need you babysitting me Sam. I'm fine"

Knowing Bucky was all bark and no bite caused Sam to roll his eyes at Bucky's antics "I'm not babysitting you. I'm just making sure you're ok. That's what friends do"

"I'm fine" Bucky retorted whilst animatedly throwing more beer down his throat. Sam snorted at his response because it would take mere seconds looking at Bucky for anyone to realise that he was the furthest thing from fine

Rolling his eyes, Sam took a swig from his own beer whilst staring daggers at the friend he knew was hurting "Yeah sure and maybe if you say it enough times, you might actually start to believe it's true too" Sam watched as Bucky ignored his comments and continued to drink "Look I'm just going to be real honest with you because someone needs to and you need to listen. You haven't been the same since Willow left and you can try to deny it all you want but we both know it's true"

Bucky could feel himself getting choked up just hearing her name. He knew Sam was right and slumped his shoulders over in defeat "Yeah... well, maybe I'm not fine but this is the best I can do at the moment"

No one really understood what had happened between the pair. One minute they were sickeningly in love and working together to take down Jeremy and the next minute, Willow had moved out and run into the arms of Jeremy of all people. None of it made sense and Sam wanted to get to the bottom of it "What went down between the two of you anyway. You haven't talked about"

Bucky gripped the beer tighter as his mind went back to that night. The night when his heart literally broke into a million pieces.

**Flashback**

After pacing for what felt like an eternity when in reality it was only a couple of minutes, Bucky dropped down to his knees to get Willow to look at him "I don't understand. I though we were good, that we were happy"

With tears flowing down her cheeks, Willow looked down, refusing to look at him as she whispered "We were happy, until we weren't I guess"

Shaking his head in frustration, Bucky lifted her chin until her gaze was upon him "What does that even mean? Willow, help me understand. What is happening here?"

Pulling away from him slightly, Willow forced herself to look at him, to drink him one more time before she left. Watching him break apart almost caused Willow to back out but she knew she couldn't "Please Bucky... don't make this any harder than it needs to be"

Bucky stood up, continuing his pacing from earlier before letting his anger boil over, kicking a stool that smashed into pieces upon impact "Make it harder? Are you fucking kidding me right now. I don't think this can be made any harder. I just want to know why you're leaving me. I deserve to know the truth"

Bucky could feel his heart pounding, looking at Willow for a shred of the woman he's madly in love with "Is it about him? Is this about Jeremy? It is about him, isn't it?"

If Bucky thought that his heart couldn't break any more than it already had that night, he was sadly mistaken. The next words completely shattered him "I can't be who you want me to be Buck. I've tried but I just can't do it. Jeremy... he understands me in a way that you can't"

Knowing that was the final nail in coffin, Bucky backed away from Willow "I don't even know you anymore. Who even are you?"

Willow turned away, refusing to answer before hearing the door slam and watching Bucky leave.

** End of Flashback***

Sam watched the emotions flicker across his friends face. He always liked Willow but watching Bucky fall apart over this, had left a sour taste in his mouth. But the thing that Sam was struggling with the most is why Willow would walk away when it was so abundantly clear from the way she looked at him, how she felt "She loves you Bucky. I am in no doubt of that. I'm telling you, something else is going on. We just need to figure it out"

Shaking his head, Bucky finished the last of his beer before fixing a stare of don't fuck with me at his friend. He didn't want to fall out with Sam but that would happen if he kept going down this train of thought "Drop it Sam, ok? I'm done fighting for her. It's time I moved on, just like she has"

Dejectedly sighing, Sam admitted defeat "Fine I'll drop it but just to be clear, I think you're making a mistake"
