Fourth Try Is the Charm

It was another Thursday night and that meant karaoke night at Sana's place. The last strains of "Psycho" by Red Velvet filled the room as Jihyo finished her song. She bowed deeply while Sana, Momo, and Chaeyoung yelled for her, clapping wildly. The quieter members of the group, Mina, Dahyun, and Tzuyu, were more reserved in their praise. Normally Nayeon would already be three songs deep into her karaoke set, but tonight she just didn't have it in her to enjoy her favorite pastime.

Jihyo passed the mic off to Chaeyoung, who eagerly grabbed it and pulled Dahyun up from her seat.

"Come on Dubu, let's show them what we got," Chaeyoung grinned. Momo groaned when she saw the duo's selection.

"Not this song again," Momo whined.

"Hey, it's a classic," Chaeyoung defended as the opening notes to "Switch To Me" by Rain and JYP began playing.

Jihyo decided it was time to talk to Nayeon. Everyone had noticed the weird mood she was in tonight, and since Jihyo was her best friend, she took it upon herself to find out what was going on.

"What's with the long face unnie?" Jihyo asked as she collapsed onto the couch next to her. Nayeon sighed deeply and rested her head on Jihyo's shoulder.

"It's Jeongyeon," the older woman said glumly.

"What'd she do this time?" Jihyo asked, suppressing a frown. Things between the couple had been tense lately.

"She hasn't done anything. It's just...." Nayeon sighed again. "I don't know. We just feel off lately and I don't know why. We've both been so busy with our jobs. It's like we don't have time for each other."

Nayeon stared at Dahyun and Chaeyoung. Their performance was amping up as they got more into the song. Sana and Momo were waving their hands in the air while Tzuyu and Mina had their phones out, recording.

"Have you talked to Jeongyeon about this?" Jihyo gently prodded.

"No," Nayeon sighed yet again. She'd been sighing a lot.

"Then talk to her unnie. You know Jeongyeon, she'll hear you out."

"I've tried. But she starts acting all weird, like I caught her doing something bad. Am I crazy to think she's doing something behind my back?"

"Woah, woah, woah, are you saying what I think you're saying?" Jihyo asked shocked.

"I mean, it's crossed my mind." Nayeon shrugged. "It's not that I think she's seeing someone else, but it would explain some things."

"Yah, Jeongyeon isn't seeing someone else! She'd never cheat on you," Jihyo said, a little offended on Jeongyeon's behalf.

The rocking performance from the rap duo ground to a halt as everyone turned their attention to Nayeon and Jihyo. Jihyo may have gotten a little too loud in defending her best friend. Sana quickly shut off the karaoke machine.

"Jeongyeon's cheating on you?" Momo asked bewildered.

"No she's not," Jihyo strongly emphasized.

"What's going on unnie?" Dahyun asked.

Any thoughts of karaoke were now gone as the group huddled around Nayeon and Jihyo.

"Nothing's going on," Nayeon said, feeling uncomfortable with the sudden attention. She didn't want to air out her and Jeongyeon's relationship issues with everyone.

"She thinks Jeongyeon is cheating on her, which she isn't! I can't believe you even think that," Jihyo said, exasperated.

"I don't alright?" Nayeon defended. "She's just been acting weird lately and we fight more than we used to. She even bailed on our date a few nights ago. I mean, can you believe that?"
