Part 2 of Dirty Little Secret

Nayeon hates herself. From the fake smiles to the lies to the forced affection, she hates it all. But what she hates the most is how she's always figuring things out too late.

She's never loved her husband; she loves the life he can give her.

She loves Jeongyeon, but she figured it out well after the ink on her marriage registry had dried.

She's hurting Jeongyeon every time she leaves her apartment in the dead of night, treating her like a dirty mistress.

This can't go on any longer.

Nayeon doesn't even remember getting home. She's still raw from their bittersweet goodbye and zoning out is easier than remembering the pain in Jeongyeon's eyes. The younger woman has never been like that before and it tears Nayeon in two. All Jeongyeon has ever done is love her. But all Nayeon seems to do is hurt her in return.

This can't go on any longer.

Nayeon stands at the doorstep of her home, hand gripping the doorknob so hard her knuckles turn white, and she comes to a decision. There's no going back from this. She'll irrevocably change three lives tonight.

Jeongyeon. Herself. Her husband.

It's what's best for everyone. She should have figured it out sooner, but she's always too late.

He's waiting for her in the living room when she finally steps through the door. Nayeon freezes. This has never happened before.

"Yeobo?" Nayeon says and she doesn't recognize her own voice.

"We need to talk Nayeon."

Once again, she figures it out too late.

He knows.

Nayeon wants to run away, run back to Jeongyeon where she'll be safe and this will have all been a terrible dream. But she won't run. She's made her decision, and she'll stay to see this through.

"How long have you been sleeping with her?" His voice is hollow; there's no trace of anger or sadness and it stings in a way she didn't expect.

There's no point in trying to sugarcoat the truth. She owes him honesty and so much more she just can't give.

"Since the party at Jihyo's," she admits. Her husband takes a deep breath and releases it slowly.

"You have two choices here Nayeon. Stop seeing her and we pretend it never happened."

Nayeon's heart breaks a little more at the thought of never seeing Jeongyeon again.

"Or we get divorced. But don't expect a damn thing from me if we do."

He makes it sound so simple when it's anything but.

Lose the love of her life or face the harsh reality of being a penniless, divorced woman?

Nayeon stares at the ring on her finger. All the promises she made when he slipped that silver band on her echos in her mind. She slowly slips the ring off and holds it in her palm as if it's a burning ember that scorches her skin.

"I'm sorry." It's all she can say as she hands the ring back to him.

"I loved you," he sobs.

"I'm sorry."

She's sorry she figured it out too late.

It's well past three in the morning when Nayeon finds herself back in front of Jeongyeon's door for the second time tonight. She grips the handle of her suitcase tightly and pretends that her hand isn't trembling as she punches in the door code.

Guilt eats at her, carving her insides with harsh strokes because of the pain she's caused. For a moment, just a brief moment, she thinks about turning back. But then Jeongyeon is standing in front of her again.

Her Jeongyeon.

The woman who makes her feel safe and loved and beautiful and so much more than anyone ever has before.

Jeongyeon's eyes drop to her suitcase then back to her swollen eyes. Nayeon sees her put the pieces together in a flash; Jeongyeon has always been quick to figure things out.

"It's okay baby," Jeongyeon reassures her. Then Nayeon is in her arms and all the pain and guilt evaporates in her warm embrace.

Eventually Jeongyeon leads her to the bedroom. She helps her get changed and puts away her suitcase in her closet. Their closet? Nayeon's too drained to have that conversation right now.

"You need to sleep baby," Jeongyeon murmurs.

They're laying in bed (their bed?) while Jeongyeon gently rubs her back. Nayeon's eyes are heavy with sleep and she's so tired. But there's something that keeps gnawing at her. Something she needs to do before she succumbs to slumber.

"Jeongyeon..."

"Hmm?"

Three little words she's held back all this time. Words she would say to her husband without a second thought. Words she could never seem to say to the one person she loves more than anything.

Until now.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

In spite of everything that has happened tonight, Nayeon smiles. She'll never have to sneak out to see Jeongyeon again. They'll be able to touch each other, kiss each other, make love without the weight of guilt marring their moments.

Nayeon won't have to hide Jeongyeon in the shadows anymore. She'll love her freely and in the open from now on.

Author's note: I couldn't stand leaving the previous chapter as it was so here's the happy ending.
P.S. I'm going to the Twice concert in Houston this weekend!
