"Morning Im. I got you a nice carrot for breakfast."

"Fuck off Jeongyeon," Nayeon said, refusing to fall for the bait so early in the day. She didn't have time for the younger woman's insults.

"You're just peachy today, aren't you?" Jeongyeon smirked. "Wake up on the wrong side of the burrow again?"

Nayeon eyed the row of sharp, gleaming knives laid out on the counter in front of her. Just one slice is all it would take. She could get rid of her biggest headache and the world would be better for it, at least in Nayeon's opinion anyway.

"Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk?" she questioned the slightly taller woman who was the bane of her existence.

Jeongyeon pretended to think a moment before shaking her head and replying, "Nope."

"Yoo! I need you over here prepping this fish!" Chef Lee yelled across the busy kitchen.

"Yes chef!" Jeongyeon hurried off to the prep station, but managed to get in one last jab at Nayeon before slipping away. "Don't forget to eat your breakfast bunny."

Nayeon bit back another colorful insult when she saw Chef Lee heading her way. She plastered on a smile, determined to not let Jeongyeon get the best of her. "Good morning Chef!"

"Good morning Im. I want you on the grill station. It's time to show me what you've got. Can you handle it?" Chef Lee asked.

"Yes Chef!" Nayeon secretly cheered on the inside. This was her chance to show Chef Lee Sunmi that she was deserving of a permanent spot in her kitchen. She headed to the grill station where sous chef Hwang Chansung was inspecting the equipment she would be using for today's lunch.

"Im, I hope you're ready," Chansung said. "The lunch rush gets hectic. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it and don't let your pride get in the way alright? If one station gets behind, we all get behind. We're counting on you."

"I won't let you down sir," Nayeon nodded firmly, feeling the determination to be at the top of her game swirling inside her.

"Let's what I like to hear. Good luck!" With a final word, the sous chef headed off to the next station to go over preparations.

This was it. After all her countless hours of grueling culinary schooling and working herself to the bone in no name kitchens, Nayeon was finally getting the chance of a lifetime. Lee Sunmi was a renowned chef, building up her own impressive reputation in the food industry and cementing her status as a legend. Scores of young culinary hopefuls would do just about anything to be able to work under her, and here Nayeon was, working in her kitchen, in charge of the grill station that Chef Lee had personally asked her to handle. Not even her rival, Yoo Jeongyeon, could dampen her spirits during this monumental moment.

The hours quickly slipped away as the kitchen worked seamlessly to prepare for the lunch rush. Soups and sauces were simmering away, freshly baked bread was nearing its time to be pulled from the oven, and the final rush of last minute checks was under way before the restaurant was open for business. Nayeon was eagerly awaiting the first ticket that would come through. What would it be? Grilled short ribs? Pork belly? Or today's special, the signature spicy chicken?

The sound of crashing pans and a pained yell startled Nayeon, and she whipped her head around to see what the commotion was. Across the room, Jeongyeon was standing next to one of the ovens, holding her left hand close to her chest while Chef Hwang was helping one of the new apprentices up from the floor. Nayeon bit her cheek to keep from openly smiling. Had the great Yoo Jeongyeon finally screwed up?
