Amina's POV:

João sat quietly in the front of the cart, lightly kicking his legs.

"Você gosta de mangas?" I asked holding up a mango

"Mangas?"

"Sim, você gosta?"

"Mmm" he nodded with a hum taking it.

"How many do you want?"

"Dez. . . .Ten"

"You want ten mangoes?"

"Uh huh"

"How about five, you can share with mama and dada, right?"

"Tennn."

"You're not going to eat ten mangoes baby" I smiled at him.

These mangoes were already pretty ripe and by the time I waited for him to eat all ten mangoes they would go bad.

"Ten, mama"

"I'll get you five and if you finish five we can get ten next time, okay?"

"No" he frowned, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Ten"

I gently pulled his arms away from his chest.

"What did mama say?"

"I want ten!"

"Use your inside voice, I'm right here there is no need to shout"

"Ten, pleaseee" he held onto the handle bar rocking his body back and forth.

"No. What other fruit do you want?" I asked, bagging the fruit and putting it into the cart.

"I want dada" he pouted, adorably.

"Dada is not going to buy you ten mangoes either."

He threw his head back dramatically with an agitated whine. While I didn't want him to think this behavior was okay, I wanted to see how he would act as he was usually very well behaved. I didn't think his first 'tantrum' would be over mangoes. I felt bad when he began to cry.

"Pleaseee mama" I shook my head and he covered his face, crying quietly. My poor baby was probably tired, I did have him up through his nap time.

Unable to watch him cry, I picked him up and held him, rubbing his back.

"You cannot have ten mangoes bubba" I wiped his face with my sleeve.

"Why?" He asked, rubbing his eyes feverishly.

"You will become icky then you'll have diarrhea and belly pain."

"What's. . . What's a diarrhea?"

"It's when you have to stay on the toilet because you have to poo a lot. Is that what you want? To sit on the toilet all day?"

"No"

"So do you still want ten mangoes?" He nodded. I didn't know how else to tell him. But I did know I was ready to get the rest of my produce and head home.

"I want dada"

I put him back into the cart, facetiming Jamie and handing him the phone.

"Dada"

"Hi baby, what's wrong, why are you crying, bug?"

"I want mangoes" he cried, making me roll my eyes. Jamie wasn't too keen on the idea of a little person running around our home at first. João is a Mama's boy which I absolutely love because I always wanted a baby but he's also becoming a daddy's boy. Which Jamie is having a field day with, rubbing it in every chance he got.
