"Let's race yeah?" João got on his bike and put his helmet on. Making his cousin and bestfriend laugh.
"Grown ass man still wearing a helmet." Akio joked getting on his bike as well. Alessio laughed doing the same.
"Wait. João needs his elbow and knee pads."
"Fuck off. Three, two-" Without another word João sped off. He had to stop at a red light because of busy traffic on the main road and this caused the other two to catch up to him.
"You cheater!"
"You never even told us where we're racing to!"
"My house duh!" Once the light turned green they all took off again. João opted to take a shortcut knowing he would probably lose.
Eventually they all returned to the single street, racing to the home at the end of the cul de sac. João got on the sidewalk since it was pretty dark out and he didn't have his reflective vest on. He hit his breaks when a woman stood in the way.
"Excuse me miss" He became frustrated when she didn't move. He began recording when she approached him.
"Alessio, Record this!"
"I am" Alessio got off his bike making sure to get the woman's face. She had her hands on João's handlebars and shoved João before pushing him into the street.
"Get off the damn sidewalk!"
"I'm fourteen. I can ride on the sidewalk" She pushed him once he was in the street and he fell into a car.
"You okay?" Akio asked helping him up before picking his bike up.
"Yeah she's just ignorant. This isn't the first time. She's the one that called the cops on my aunt."
"Damn right. And I'll call them again. Get your little friends out of my gated community."
"I live here. Bro, tell your mom."
"It's okay. Let's just go."
"She put her hands on you. Isn't that assault?"
"Maybe I shouldn't have been on the sidewalk."
"What is wrong with you? Why did you hit him?" Alessio asked and she completely ignored him.
"Why did you hit me?"
"Want me to hit you again?"
"Bro. Go tell her unless you want me to get my dad involved." Knowing that once Tony got involved it would be terror he began shouting for his mother.
"Mom!"
"Mom!"
"MOM!" João's anger began settling in when she began pressing Akio.
"Where you from?"
"It doesn't matter. Leave him alone."
"João? What going on?" Amina stood at her front door in her creme robe and slippers. João felt bad knowing she was trying to relax.
". . . Uh" He began walking up to Amina when she motioned for him to come to her.
"She hit him! She pushed him off his bike and I have it on video!" Alessio shouted down the street.
"She What?"
"She hit me, ma."
"Are you okay?" She began to check him over for any blemishes.
"Grab your bike and get inside" João nodded doing as told as Amina changed into her outside shoes and hung her robe up.
"Boys, get inside." Akio and Alessio followed João putting their bikes in the garage.
"You put your hands on my son?"
"Yeah I did. And I'll do it again. You need to discipline those rambunctious boys. I know they're coming from a mile away"
"Dad, Dad!"
"Yo"
"Mama's outside with Ms.Berlusconi"
"For what?"
"She hit João and pushed him off his bike." Alessio filled in, angered by the woman's entitlement. This wasn't their first altercation with her.
Jamie walked outside, sighing when he saw the woman getting hostile. He knew Amina. And knew she wasn't one to really flip out and cause a scene. Even when one was needed.
"Who are you!? You don't even belong here! How do you even afford this house. I bet it's your white husband!" She shouted in Amina's face. It took everything in her not to put her hands on this woman because she was heated. But she knew João was watching. She never wanted him to see her get out of her character.
"Ma'am-" She smiled.
"What's going on? You alright?" Amina nodded.
"What's going on?"
"I was just telling this woman she needs to watch her bebe kids" she rolled her eyes.
"Bebe kids?" Amina repeated in disbelief.
"Woah, alright. Let's not attack children, right. Especially my children. I'll tell you now. Do not put your hands on my child. Or any child that walks in and out of my house-"
"Are you threatening me?"
"I can assure you I'm not threatening you. You're a grown woman. My wife has been trying to handle you in a respectful manner but I see you're starting to push it. Pushing my kid off his bike. The hell is wrong with you. Want me to push your fat ass off your bike?" Amina stifled her laughter and nudged her husband.
"Don't be rude. She's older."
"This will be my last time telling you. Stop harassing my family."
"Your family is harassing me."
"You think I'm playing?"
"What are you going to do? Call the cops?"
"Don't try me. I don't do the law, I'll handle you myself. My daughter told me she sees you on our front yard. I'm telling you now. I don't play about my wife and I sure as hell don't play about my kids. Your husband's a cop, he knows about me."
“You gangsters are ruining my neighborhood. I've been living here since nineteen sixty-” Amina shoved the woman watching her fall into her unkempt bushes.
“Keep your hands off my kid. Next time I won't be so nice about it”
Amina walked away, Jamie following her with a devious grin. He had plans for her.
