"Pick up, Pre-K "
"I'm here" The after school Counselor spoke into the mic after pressing the button.
"I need Samira, she's going home"
"Copy, we're on the way. Samira, you're going home baby" The quiet three year old stood up with her backpack and grabbed her Counselor's hand.
"Do you have your water bottle and sweater?"
"Yes" she whispered.
"Alright let's go see mommy and daddy"
"Did you have fun today?" Samira nodded, brushing her hair out of her face.
"Very good." She walked Samira outside.
"Samira's Mommy or daddy?" She asked looking around and Amina stepped forward raising her hand.
"You can go, baby. Go to mommy" She told Samira once she saw Amina.
"Mommy!" She ran to Amina hugging her legs.
"What's wrong?" Amina asked picking her up and wiping her face.
"I d-don't wanna g-go anymore" She cried, wrapping her arms around Amina's neck.
"Awww princess, it's alright. We're going home. How was she?" She asked her daughter's after school teacher.
"She's very good. Well mannered and a great listener." Amina nodded with a smile, she was happy to hear that at least one of her children was listening.
"We did have a small hiccup"
"Yeah?" Amina asked, poking Samira's side, making her giggle.
"Yes, She didn't want to come to after-school today, she cried and cried for about an hour which is normal."
"I'm sorry, that's our fault. Our children are always under us so it's hard for them to be away from us. But we're working on it. Thank you so much, what was your name again?"
"Yasmina"
"Yasmina, Thank you so much"
"No problem. See you tomorrow, my love" Yasmina held her hand out for a high five and Samira softly put her hand in Yasmina's.
"Excuse me?" She spoke to the director.
"Yes?"
"Is my son ready?"
"Who's your son again."
"João"
"Ahhh, João. Copy on João. João Giordano." She spoke into the walkie talkie.
"We're on our way"
"Thank you." She smiled at Amina.
Another counselor walked João out, holding his upper arm.
"Mommy, Mommy!" He pulled away from his counselor, running to Amina. He hugged his mother pointing at his counselor.
"What happened, baby?"
"Him yelled at me and grab me so hard" João cried. Knowing João didn't lie she looked at the counselor for an explanation.
"Look mama" João did in fact have a bruise the shape of a hand on his arm.
"Ma'am, my son has a bruise on his arm" the director of the after school program walked over.
"Tell her what happened during recess"
"Um when it was time to go inside, I told João to line up and he ran outside the gate to the sidewalk. He kept running, wanting me to chase him and he ran into the street so I grabbed his arm pulling him back before he passed the parked cars. I Apologize for the bruise, it's not my intention to hurt any of my kids but I'd rather explain why he has a bruise instead of why he was hit by a car."
