Klaus's phone rang as he stared hauntingly at the baby in his arms. His mind felt numb as he recalled the moments leading up to Hope being born.
"I can't leave her," Hayley cried, "I can't... Klaus, she needs someone to look after her."
Klaus grabbed Hayley's hands.
"I gave you a promise, did I not? This morning if I remember correctly. She will be loved, cherished, and cared for. I will not break my promise to you or her," Klaus reassured.
Hayley gave one last push as the sound of Hope's cries echoed through the room. Rebekah cleaned her up and wrapped her in a blanket.
"She's lovely," Rebekah said softly.
"Please. Just once. Can I hold her," Hayley asked.
Klaus carefully removed the baby from her arms to hand Hope over to Hayley. The baby quieted down as she met Hayley's eyes.
"Look at you. You are beautiful," Hayley praised, tears reaching her eyes, "You're going to be okay, Hope. You're going to be okay because you have a family to watch over you and a father who loves you so much."
Klaus heard it before he saw it. Hayley's heart slowing down, the light fading from her eyes, and her body went limp. He grabbed Hope from her arms. He stared at her, trying to understand what was happening. What went wrong? Why is she dying?
"Hayley...?"
"Nik, will please answer your phone," Kol asked in a complaining manner.
Klaus snapped out of his head to grab his cell phone.
"Hello," Klaus said.
"Klaus, hey. Are you okay? Where are you," Dean asked.
"Home. I have Hope. Dean, Hayley... She's gone. I failed to save her," Klaus said.
Dean knitted his eyebrows and dropped his eyes to the ground. He already asked Gabriel about it and it turns out...
"Klaus, Archangel-Nephilim births consume a lot of energy, and most times, it consumes the soul too. Hayley wouldn't have survived even if you," Dean started, trying to find some way to comfort him, "There was nothing you could've done. I'm sorry."
Klaus stayed quiet and stared at Hayley's body.
"She knew," Klaus whispered.
"Hope probably found some way to tell her. Stiles did the same with Lisa apparently. Are you going to be okay," Dean asked.
"I doubt I have a choice. I am a father now," Klaus sighed.
"That makes four of us. Damon is going to kill me for making him a grandfather so soon," Dean said, making Klaus huff out a small laugh.
"Are we to remain at the safe house for the time being," Klaus asked.
"At the moment, the safe house wouldn't really be the best spot. The place needs a major clean up," Dean said, looking around at the blood stains, "The children should be raised together though. I mean they are siblings, right?"
Klaus agreed with a hum.
"I will be over there shortly," Klaus said, getting up.
"Okay, we'll be waiting," Dean said.
Dean hung up and sighed deeply as he held Stiles in his arms.
"Hey, big guy. You doing okay? You're probably getting hungry, aren't you," Dean smiled.
