Stiles sat in front of Derek, talking about the issues he's been having to deal with as of late. Derek looked thoroughly annoyed.
"Stiles, I hate to interrupt," Derek started.
"What's up," Stiles asked.
"You're supposed to be talking business with me, not turning me into your personal therapist," Derek reminded.
"I get that, but I can't focus on business when I have so many things on my..."
"Why do I even bother," Derek grumbled, standing up to grab something to drink from the kitchen.
Stiles silently followed after him.
"Do you know why I talk about myself when I come here," Stiles asked softly.
"No. Because frankly, it's annoying as hell! Do you know how long it took for me to convince my mother to let me do some sort of work for the family business?! Months! It took months of preparation, work, and negotiation, and somehow I got stuck dealing with you of all people," Derek snapped, "God, you're so fucking annoying!"
Stiles stared down his shoes, wondering if it would be best to leave. Maybe he's been trying too hard to get Derek to open up to him.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I just assumed trying to talk business with you would be meaningless," Stiles asked.
"Why? Because I'm too young," Derek asked, glaring coldly at him.
"Because you're too smart. I mean the investment plans, the finances, and the contracts are far too easy for you, Derek. You already know how to make this business a million dollar company on your own," Stiles shrugged.
Derek was taken aback by his words.
"You... You think so," Derek asked.
"I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. You don't need my help. The only reason I'm still here is to sign off on your ideas. That's it," Stiles reasoned, "I just don't understand why you second-guess yourself so much."
"I'm a kid," Derek said.
"A kid with an awesome mind. Remember, you are my business partner. Your age doesn't matter," Stiles said, "Besides, we're literally the same age."
"I guess you're right. I, uh, kind of feel shitty for insulting you now. I'm sorry. I just... I guess I'm having an off-day or something," Derek apologized, "Know what? Let's start over. Can I start over?"
"Sure, I guess," Stiles said.
Derek set down his drink and left the room. He reentered soon after and extended his hand to Stiles with a genuine smile.
"Hi. My name is Derek Hale. I will be your new business partner," Derek greeted.
Stiles smiled back at him and grabbed his hand, giving it a firm shake.
"Nice to meet you, Derek. I'm Stiles Salvatore. I'm happy to work with you," Stiles greeted back.
Derek grinned and let his hand go. He picked his soda up, taking a long drink.
"So like, what's next? Do I tell you my plans or something," Derek asked excitedly.
Stiles turned his head to the side as he felt an unusual presence break through the barrier protecting Mystic Falls.
"How about you write down your ideas? That way the next time I visit, you can present them to me. Deal," Stiles negotiated.
"You're leaving already," Derek asked, his smile dropping.
